Yes, poetry does lift the spirits and is very fulfilling. Your words show the impact of poetry on your life and it is a positive part of your life. I like your second verse about friends and family and the comfort they give you, it is a verse that I can relate to.

Writing poetry helped me get over the death of my husband in 2009. Now I have suffered the loss of my two youngest children a month apart in November and December, 2022 and I can't write a line about it. I am at a loss to come up with one line... Poetry is good for the soul. Good job, Bill. Nancy:)

you served your country. Your service is appreciated.
-My dad was in the Air Force and served in the Korean war.
-I'm glad you used the GI bill and that it opened doors for you.

I must say, this resonates with me strongly, especially --

I must go on, with what I do."
