Begging Birds

Yvonne, this story is so sweet and endearing. I love how you feed the birds. Seeing those birds each day is quite a joy. Just sharing here--After snowstorms, I have a neighbor who sprinkles bird seed on top of the snow as if she were seeding her lawn. The birds come far and wide. It's quite a lovely scene. Yvonne, it seems like your birds keep you busy. They let you know when the "fridge" is empty and their tummies too.
A story of love and kindness, and that's just like you. Well done. Xo. M

Awww, what a sweet thing to say. I've been told I'm nicer to animals than people. hahahaha. I love when it snows and can throw the see out, seeing their little footprints in the snow. Sometimes, I bake cornbread and crumble it for the.

I believe you. I have had large groups of birds at my feeders and I believe they know who feeds them. It is interesting that you have different varieties waiting at the same time, sometimes I have different ones at my feeders, other times I have a huge flock of doves, chickadees or other birds.

Great job, Yvonne! Your little story was a delight to read. You
shared it in a fun way. I loved the descriptions of one little bird
watching and waiting, then soon another joins and another. Those
little birds have trained you well, and they didn't hesitate to let you
know when you were slow with their food. I could see everything
you wrote. Your words were descriptive, well-thought out, flowed
smoothly, and were fun to read. All critters are smarter than we
humans realize. You were/are their best friend.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

I am positive it's possible to spoil the wild bird population because I'm positive I have done it also. Not only with food to include fresh water in the birdbath. My husband and I have done it too. LOL

Good to know. Thanks, Barbara. I'm not the only one with spoiled birds.

The birds are obviously very grateful to you for the food you leave them and they are showing their appreciation. Birds are so intelligent and quite unlike Hitchcock's interpretation of the birds, although they will attack if their nests are threatened, a lovely story, love Dolly x

Thank you. I was surprised when I saw the first bird actually peeping in the window.

I believe you. I used to feed the birds but I don't now because I can't lug the sunflower seed into the house or clear the area of snow around the feeders. I've moved now, so there are no birds counting on me. At one place I lived, I had several feeders up and the birds and squirrels congregated. I hadn't fed the birds yet. I had a snow shovel leaning against one of the glass panels next to the door and there was a little red squirrel perched on the shovel peering in the window. I think he was trying to tell me that I needed to scatter food on the ground for him and the doves.

So it happened to you, too. I was surprised to see a bird staring at me through the glass door. Thanks for reviewing.

If you can I would love to see an actual shot of these hungry little birds, it would be a treat to see them, we tend to take their survival for granted, but we also know that winter can be a lean time for them, beautifully written Yvonne, blessings Roy

I think I grew up in an age when animals' intelligence was very underrated. Now, after a lifetime of having pets and watching animal behavior in the world around me, I believe that there's much more similarity between human and animal intelligence than I noticed when I was young. Like us, animals are very self-interested, but they quickly learn how to influence outcomes. The author also notes the ways that animal communication (bird communication in this case) resembles ours in inflections and motivations.

Thank you. I've always said animals, including birds, are more intelligent than people give them credit for.

Oh my! They must be hungry! I am used to them as they frequent our waterfront property. Sometimes we have hundreds! Sending you my best wishes for the day and your birds in keeping.

Animals are intelligent creatures. They know how to survive, and they knew there was a good thing going on at your house. Word got out ... chirp chirp, chirp chirp.
I enjoyed your story.
Cheers. John
