So... the crazy man really CAN write serious poetry! This is so lovely. The sentiment is exactly what poetry is meant to do-whether serious or humorous. Excellent job of creating such a beautiful and coherent message in this truncated format. That lovely image takes this work over the top. I only regret I missed the voting and hope my 6-star-rating doesn't fall flat. Sometimes it's easy to share in the fanfare after the fact. But my review is truly heartfelt. CONGRATS ON YOUR WELL-DESERVED WIN!!! PLEASE keep sharing thy gifts with us!

Hey, Ida, hello. Yeah, sometimes I actually try on here. Lol. I have a lot more fun with the ridiculous crap but I'll squeak something serious in there here and there. The sad part is that it doesn't usually fly. I was surprised to see this come out on top, to be honest. Haha. Thank you so much for the fantastic review and giant sixer, Ida. I'm glad you liked the piece.

Not only are you crazy but you are way too modest! Your works that I've read so far are all extremely well-written & clearly convey powerful & moving messages-yes, even the alleged "ridiculous crap"! I don't give empty praise & I certainly don't hand out 6's like candy; I have too much respect for my fellow writers & hope they don't do that to me. But I DO give credit where credit is due. I love & appreciate great writing- your writing! RE your comment that your serious stuff "doesn't usually fly": the voting booth is open for "The Horror of IT ALL"; there are only 4 entries but they are all dynamic, so I ranked them re certain criteria to guide my vote; they are all winners in my book. Yes, I know it's disappointing to not win the contest (been there!), but that doesn't diminish the quality of the work, & if we're really honest with ourselves we know when our stuff is really good or just crap. I look forward to reading more from you. Sorry for this long-winded dissertation! Enjoy your week!

Thank you, Ida. Yes, the piece in that particular contest took a lot of thought and work. And yes, even when I'm goofing around, I still do my best at it. I'm sure if you dug into my portfolio a bit, you'd find a lot of stuff you'd love. You'd have to dig through a lot of silliness but there are some gems hidden throughout. I'm glad you liked this piece, Ida. Thank you again.

So, Ron, are you up for a crown of heroic sonnets? (smile). There are still three weeks left. No, I understand it's a Herculean undertaking, and you already contributed a few times.
reply by the author on 27-Jan-2023
I've been giving it some thought but can't really come up with something new to write a crown on. I'll keep trying to come up with something. I had an idea but I know the masses won't really appreciate it for all the work it would take. We'll see.

I like the Shakespearean feel of this little five-line poem. And you describe exactly why we write that we can draw out the feelings expressed in the reader. Congratulations on the win!!

I was just reading a favourite quote from another FanStory writer about poetry expressing the universal. This poem illustrates that perfectly. We can often find our feelings mirrored in a poet's (or in my case, particularly a songwriter's) words. I think songwriters qualify as poets too.

Oh yes, song writing is definitely poetry. I was writing songs long before I was ever on this site. Thank you for the great review and generous stars, Sarah. I'm glad you liked the piece.

Oh, well done. Are you on Apple Music, Spotify or anything like that? I'd like to hear your songs.
reply by the author on 27-Jan-2023
I'm nothing like a professional song writer with anything on Spotify or Apple. I was mostly talking about song "writing." Lol. I had dreams a long time ago but real life got in the way of that. I home recorded a song or two along the way but nothing ever came of them. If interested, there was a song I created for a contest on here years ago. I used a music program to create the music rather than actually playing any instruments even though I can play all of them. If you look in my portfolio and do a search, (magnifying glass) the list will come up in alphabetical order. The name of the piece is Fortress Walls. That's something I put on YouTube. The video's at the bottom. Not a great mix but at least while on here you can read the words along with it. Haha. I was writing songs years before I was ever on here. This place has taught me how to write them better though. Lol. Fortress Wall is the title if interested.

Hi DS,
This poem is well written and illustrated. I think it tells us that poets/writers should be honored. Also, that we all write about what touches us in hopes it will touch others.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Congrats on the contest win.
Joan

DS, this is an excellent entry for the 5 line poem contest.
All syllables are in check to relay a subtle yet profound
message that reverberates loud and lulling into a another
poet's heart or sensitive soul. Bravo ~ enjoy the six shower.

A great read. Well composed and great use of language. The pause or "..." heightens the effectiveness of the poem's message. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
