I like how this is written from Secretariat's viewpoint and his description of his life. I never knew about his companion the snow white horse who was a therapy horse. Excellent writing that makes the reader think about animals and how we treat them, I was never fond of horse racing either.

Thank you so much,
mermaids. Some people
who like horse racing got a
little defensive when I brought up my anti- horse
racing views. I'm of course
am also against dog fighting
which is such an evil and
horrific thing. I feel people
who participate in this
disgusting spectacle should
spend at least 10 years
in prison. Many blessings
to you and your family.

I agree, prison sentences for animal abuse, absolutely. Elaine

Regina,
I love this poetic prose salute to Secretariat. I watched him race on tv, and was amazed as everyone who saw this horse tear up the racetrack.
I like that this famous horse is the narrator of your poem; he puts a human touch on your work. I believe animals do go to Heaven for their selflessness.
Great work, Regina.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
Blessings,
Cindy

My deepest thanks,
dear Cindy! I'm so very
grateful for the generous
6 star review, very kind of
you. Secretariat was such
a one in a millennium horse.
I could tell he loved to run.
Have you seen the Secretariat movie, the
Seabiscuit movie, both are
outstanding and very
heartfelt movies. I hope you
are having a superb Monday.
I have met so many other
veterans that are poets/writers on FS and other writing websites. Every
one of them is a fantastic
poet/writer. Many blessings to you & your family. Thank
you!
-
Thank you, Author. I?ve seen both horse movies more than once. Both are fantastic.
Good luck.
Blessings,
Cindy

Thank you very much, Shirley
for taking the time to read
this story, and for the 6 stars.
I greatly appreciate it.
Secretariat was a once in a
millennium horse. If you
haven't seen the Secretariat
movie, do watch it, it's
an amazing film. I hope you
have a lovely Sunday. Many
blessings to you & yours. ~

Well done, once upon a time perhaps, neighbor. Our family lived in Rocky Mount, a stone throw away from Dodge's famous roadside store with the best hot dogs I ever et. .............. Secretariat was a beast.

Thank you so much, Tom.
I greatly appreciate it. I've been living in NC for over
35 years. There's a whole lot
of restaurants in this area.
The little restaurants and
roadside stores have some
of the best tasting foods.
Yes, Secretariat was king of
the racetrack. I believe he
loved to run. If you haven't
seen the Secretariat movie
yet, do watch it. The movie
is very inspiring. Have a
creative Sunday. All the best.

You can tell from reading this that the writer has a love, keen knowledge and special affinity with horses. A good attempt was made at the use of First Person here although it felt somewhat forced at times. A lovely sentiment that the horses and animals, well loved are somewhere content, over the rainbow bridge.

Thank you, Karyn, for the
5 star review. I really appreciate it. I think I know
what you mean where you
felt it was forced. I mention
the word, "I," often. I'm a
former equestrienne, and
I'll always have a place in my
heart for equines. I hope you
have a splendid and creative
Sunday. Blessings to you. ~

well, since you're writing from the POV of the horse that won the triple crown, you should know if he agrees with you or not that racing is inhumane. I'm just being facetious, but maybe they love to run against each other. At any rate, It is nice that you give mention of his trainer, etc.
He was surely one beautiful horse to watch! And apparently, was also very opinionated. :) ( just kidding)
Interesting and informative write.

Hi Katharine, I definitely feel
some horses love to run,
and Secretariat surely did.
He was a one in a millennium
horse. If you haven't seen the
Secretariat movie or the
Seabiscuit movie, I think
you'd enjoy both movies. I
love to write personification.
I attempted to, "put myself
in his horseshoes," so to speak. Thank you so much
for the 5 stars and kind words. Have a lovely and
creative weekend. Blessings

yes, saw both movies and enjoyed them. My sister has a beautiful horse farm. She was Master of the hounds in fox hunting country, a beautiful rider - lots of cross country jumps and over creeks, etc. We both have ridden all our lives, however I've gotten too stiff with arthritis to ride any more.
Hope you have a lovely weekend, too!
Enjoyed all your comments.

The horse that made life famous was Secretariat. I have watched the movie and also have the book. Horse racing is a great sport to read about. Like your story, even though he has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.

Hello Rosemary, Secretariat
was a once in a millennium
horse. Did you also see the
Seabiscuit movie? Both
racehorse movies make me
weep for the soul stirring
stories of both horses. Thank
you for the 5 stars, and for
liking my prose. May you
have a wondrous weekend.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I have a friend whose granddaughter is working with a therapy horse, and it seems to be working wonders with her. I enjoyed reading and good luck with the contest.

Hello Barbara, I'm so glad to
hear your granddaughter
loves being with the therapy
horse. Some of the miniature
therapy horses go into
hospitals and nursing homes
and I hear most of the patients absolutely enjoy the
little horses. Thank you so
much for the 5 star review.
All the best to you & yours.
Comment from John Ciarmello
My father owned horses for years, and I never considered it inhumane, but that would be for the horse to determine and something we would never know.
To me, they are athletes and love what they do. Horses, by nature, love to run and probably have no idea they are in a racing format. They want to run. Nicely done! Best, JohnC

Hi John, yes, some horses
definitely love to run. I will
say that Secretariat sure did.
I watched both the Secretariat and Seabiscuit
movies which were so deeply
soul stirring. I needed my
Kleenex right next to me.
May your weekend be a
safe and creative one for
writing. Thank you so much
for the 5 stars! All the best
life offers to you. ~

Very nicely written, and a very enjoyable read. I liked how you gave us the facts about Secretariat in a first person account from his point of view.
I can't speak to the humanity (equinamity?) or lack thereof about horse racing in general because I don't know that much about what goes on. It is terrible to read about the doping of horses and the killing of them should they become lame, but there's something that tells me horses who race probably enjoy the competition and feel pride in their accomplishments.

Hi Jim, thank you so much
for the 5 stars. I definitely
enjoyed penning the
personification of Secretariat
He was a once in a millennium horse, he was
priceless. I loved watching
both the Secretariat and
Seabiscuit movies. I wept
with the wondrous stories
of both racehorses. I agree
some horses delight with
running. Thoroughbreds
have it in their blood, I think.
Have a lovely evening and
a creative weekend. ~
