Hi Jeni
You're short story is well written and has a twist at the end. It seems like she might be giving a lecture on relationships. I like that she is so caring of her followers and the twist at the end that she is happy that her husband left her. Maybe he was an abuser.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Congratulations on placing second in the contest.

The Clash quickly came to mind and the melody rang in my head when I read this title. But within seconds you'd reached inside my chest and snatched a wad of emotions and my breath. And sympathy for the assumed heartbroken women quickly turned to delight. Outstanding as always, my dear. Hugs, Ric

Interesting set up and delivery of your twist ending. It is true, not every break-up is a bad thing. With her celebrating, this will over well with mostly female membership. Good luck in the contest.
notes
Michael had left her after twenty one years.

LOL, yes indeed. What a great twist you have provided for this story. Ironically there have been two other stories posted in the past week about husbands who filed for a divorce unexpectedly after twenty years.
If those ladies read your story, maybe they have a little different perspective relative to their own events. Good luck in the contest. And well done. Terry.

That last line gave a totally unexpected feeling to the story. At first, I assumed that the marriage breakup was devastating and that's why she hesitated. But she found gratification in giving her lecture, and as we found out, she was happy with being free from the marriage.
Best wishes in the contest!

I enjoyed the way you started this story. Your protagonist questioned whether she was doing the right thing by carrying on with her life and responsibilities after the devastation of Michael leaving her. I enjoyed the twist at the end where you realize she in a modern independent woman who plans to celebrate her freedom. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

Yes, her work ethic took over, and she did the right thing, Jen.

the best.

-You did a good job with this, Jen, starting with the picture.
-I started reading, and figured this was going to be really sad;
this poor woman whose husband left her, and she had to give a lecture.
-She honored her obligation and was glad to see those who had made
a big effort to come.
-A great twist at the end!!!!
-Good luck in the contest.
