"Wanting vengeance wears down the sorrowed psyche," what a great line and so true. I really enjoyed reading your free verse poem. It is honest and heartfelt. Well written.

Thank you, Jacqueline! I really appreciate the 5 stars.
This is an older poem that I
    was saving for another
    forgiveness poem contest,
and then this one came along. I hope you have a
    wondrous poetry week.
    Blessings to you ~

This is such an important quality in all people who are forgiving. No it is not easy, but as the Lord forgives us, how can we not forgive others and even ourselves sometimes. Glad you wrote elegantly on this subject.

Thank you, Shirley! I was saving this older poem for
    another forgiveness poetry
contest, and one came along. I'm so pleased you
    like it, and my appreciation
for you taking the time to
read it and for the 4 stars.
    May you have a creative
    poetry week. Many blessings
    to you. ~

You wrote a beautiful poem in memory of your husband. It is a good entry for the contest. Thank you for entering the contest. If I am reading this right, you are asking for forgiveness for the anger you felt when he died.

I know grief is different for each person. When my wife died four years ago. I only felt sadness and the quiet. Feeling quiet is an interesting emotion.

I am sure you are forgiven. Excellent work. Terry.

    Hello Terry, thank you so
much for the 5 stars and for
taking the time to read my
    poem. My late husband
    passed away suddenly and
    unexpectantly almost 3 years
    ago on February 11, 2020.
    I usually didn't make him
    pancakes during the work
    week. I made pancakes and
    other kinds of breakfasts on
the weekend. But that morning (a Tuesday), I felt
    the need to make him
peanut butter pancakes before he left for work. He
ate them fine, said "Thank you
    they were delicious." Then
headed out the door to his
car. I went into the bedroom
    and got on the-computer to
    copy some of my poems.
I didn't hear him came back
up the steps. He had forgotten his car keys. He
    may have been irritated
    because I didn't have my
    cellphone in the room with
me. It was charging up in
    another room and I didn't
hear it. I didn't hear him
collapse on the wooden deck. He had a pulmonary
    embolism and died. I was
still not aware the poor man
was out there. I kept copying
    some poems. Within a half
    hour my son-in-law called me
on the phone, by that time I
had my phone with me. He
    was yelling,"Mike has had a
    heart attack!!!" I thought they
    both were at my son-in-law's
    transmission shop and Mike
    was on the shop's front
    porch. Then, my son-in-law
yelled, "I'm on your deck out
    here!!!!" Joe kept trying to
    revive him, but Mike's lips
    and fingertips were already
gray. We knew he was gone.
We had the sad and heavy
    burden of telling my daughter
    and my two grandchildren
    that Mike had passed away.
I then realized if he had the
car keys to begin with and
    was headed down the four
    lane highway, he would of
    been struck with the fatal
    embolism while driving, and
    accidently hurt or killed
    someone else. Perhaps the
    Lord's divine grace prevented
    that from happening. All five
of us miss him very much.
We wish he was still here.
    I've written about twenty
    poems dedicated to him. I'm
    so sorry your beloved wife
    passed away.

Let go of all anger and forgive is such good advice and I felt the serene tranquility in your words here as I was reading and wish you luck with the contest, love Dolly x

    Thank you, dear Dolly.
    Forgiveness isn't always so
easy to do. But, I feel with
God's help, there can be more forgiveness to go around. Have a blessed and
    poetic week. xxo

Not just a beautiful free verse poem, this is a wonderful description of the redemptive qualities of forgiveness, for both parties. Everything you say is so true and yet, we hesitate to forgive, not willing to give a most beautiful gift to ourselves. Good luck in the contest.

    Thank you, dear Ginda!
    Forgiveness can heal the
    person struggling with
    unforgiveness, not just the
    offender(s). It can stop
    headaches and body aches
from holding a lot of anger.
I'm glad you like my poem.
    May your week be filled
    with creativity and poetry.
