This is very powerfully expressed and, of all the verses I've read on this subject, this one manages to say so much simply without fuss and superfluous sentimentality. It has great sincerity and hits the mark for me. Thanks for sharing your undoubted skill, Rachelle. Debbie x

Sorry I missed this one Rachelle. It is very moving and resonates with me since we are a military family... my hubby retired from U S Army in 2005 and has since taught at the Army Logistics University. We still feel like we are in the military :)... he drives in to Ft. Lee every day. Great verse on patriotism!!

I read this post twice to be certain I heard not just the surface, but the meaning underneath. Our veterans do not get the care they need. Many soldiers come home, broken in ways we cannot see. In 2022, approximately 40 soldiers a day died from suicide. There is a wake-up call in your poem. Good post. ann

This is a well written, outstanding commentary and a fitting tribute. It is sad that so many people feel this way but so few express it and even less actually do something. - Jerry

Rachelle...
This is outstanding in every way. The stark contrast between how much we receive in exchange for the tremendous sacrifice made on our behalf by our military is simultaneously humbling and awe-inspiring. And the bookend reprises of your title line puts our contribution into proper perspective.
Thanks for this powerful reminder. Exceptional!

Thank you for the lovely poem, mystery writer. So awfully tired of military and police bashing. We must respect and appreciate the sacrifices made:
Freedoms, daily comforts, daily existence! Thank you, Lord! Thank you, brave ones!
And thank you for sharing. I will be watching for this in the contest.

Wow, I should know better than to go on friend's sites to see what they have been up to or to leave a fast pm, because I had to see what you have written, and this had to be read. OMGosh, this was amazing and I feel the exact same way.
But I loved how you used those words, while we stay home. Perfect and now I have the chills throughout my whole body that I cannot warm up from. Plus, my eyes were already blurry, but now I can't see anything, from the tears. This was simply Amazing!! Especially to get that much feeling and power out in so few words, is beautiful.
I feel so strong on the subject that in 2020 after the George Floyd killing in our state here, where the cruel cop kept his knee on his throat and it killed him. Well I hated that, but later on when football was starting and the Packers were in MInneapolis to play our Vikings, the Packers would not come out of the locker room for the National Anthem. I instantly boycotted football for the whole season, because no matter what that rotten cop did, it had nothing to do with our flag and what it stands for, and our armed forces. I lost many in Vietnam and other wars, but I don't not turn my back on the flag. It would be a slap in the face to the people we lost.
Anyway, just had to let you know how wonderful this was and am so happy I read it. Awesome Job Rachelle! So glad I did not miss this one.
And lol, what I came over to your place for initially, was to let you know that I did review that story that she wrote for you. Every word I meant, as it was phenomenal.

So heartfelt. I absolutely loved this poem. Very well composed and so very true. I am thankful to all the service men and women. We would be lost without them.

Your poem says well why we should be thankful for those who are willing to give of themselves to protect our well-being. I like the style you used to express your thoughts and the picture chosen.
