That last stanza really tied it all together! The picture really sets the tone for the background color you chose and the words you weaved.

Congratulations on being recognized, it's well deserved!

I visited Pompeii last May and it was quite a site. It was the ashes that suffocated people and animals alike. I saw quite a few casts of people who died in motion.

This is an interesting choice for the contest. Good luck.

This is well-done. I remember learning about Pompeii years ago, maybe in the 1980s. Just the incredible amount of destruction and how many people were caught up in it is unforgettable. How clever of you to focus on someone, an older man, who may not have even heard it coming.

Well, what a story you have written in this poem, admittedly I know little of Pompeii except for films, though I got totally engrossed in this read, very well done, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

What an excellent piece of work. It flowed so well into a somewhat unexpected but extremely well described conclusion. This is the best work I have read in a while.

I think that when death come for me, I do not wish the death of anyone else, but I would prefer mine to come unannounced, and unnoticed by me. Please let me just continue to sleep with the very last thought a mere dream.

I almost didn't read this when I saw that it was a "horror" poem. But I am glad I did. Rhyming is good and the poem flows freely. What a great tragedy you have described.

Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. In the case of the Pompeiians, entire households were overtaken by the sudden eruption - frozen together through time, embedded in rock. A sad and touching story in a poem - about the one who died alone

Sometimes ignorance is bliss. One line really struck me as original and imaginative in its imagery, really capturing the feel of the moment; Lives turned to stone. I think you can't come up with a better line than this to describe what happened there on that day. It packs a punch in a small space. estory

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. It was definitely a story written in poetic form. I had to pause. I do know the story of Pompeii, but I can also see a metaphor for what is happening the world today. I enjoyed reading.
