What a fun 3 line poem! I am always amazed at how writers rise to the challenge of a limited word or line count. This is darling and very clever. Good luck in the contest.

This is a cute and clever little three line poem. The picture suits it perfectly. I guess there could be worse things to be addicted to. Good luck in the contest.

This 5-7-7, Hokey Pokey, has the proper formatting and makes a funny play on the song words for your poem. I guess, in the final analysis, that's what it's all about.

Funny and smart. The play on words is genius!!
Hokey pokey is so well known now that it's original meaning has been totally transformed. I remember, long time ago in primary school, we learned it that way:
Hokey pokey, penny a lump
Have a lick will make you jump...
Of course it was then about the ice cream!!
Great job and good luck!!!

This is a fun poem with a great illustration. It puns on words/phrases and is very amusing! Addiction is of course a more serious subject. On a lighter note, you can be 'addicted' to dancing - my teenage granddaughter is!

Is hokey pokey related to addiction Debi? I did not know that, unfortunately addicts find it very difficult to turn it all around, once addicted, it can be a long road to recovery. Your light hearted words made be think that this guy was addicted to dancing, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly. I thank you for honest question. I am sure that HP or even dancing is not on the list of addictions to watch out for, yet I am also sure that there are many who are addicted to each one of these.

Addiction is a disease that knows no boundaries. Coming from a double dose of inherited addiction, I learned this the hard way. I've yet to come upon anything in my life that I truly love, that I didn't become addicted to at some point. Whenever I have enjoyed something immensely over a period of time, it becomes an issue for me.
If I tried to quit FS, it would be devastating and would or could not happen w/o an extreme amount of pain and suffering. To someone without the disease, it is merely a short term nuisance to rid yourself of the habit to stop anything that they love, much like a person going on a diet.

This is why I went through both of my leg surgeries without a drop of narcotics. They said it couldn't be done, and that I was setting myself up for an unhealthy amount of pain while healing, and throughout therapy to walk again. They were right about the pain, but that phrase set me up for success. I fight harder when people use the word 'can't.'
Sorry for the long reply, and even though this post was only meant to give people a smile, you gave me cause to answer your serious question with a serious answer.

Thank you for your reply Debi and I hope you are fully recovered from your surgeries now, it sounds like you suffered a lot, love Dolly x

Maybe so, but no pity parties here, just so thankful for what is the end result. It is still very difficult and painful but I am walking on my own now. I am very blessed and always look for the positive.
Lol, however in a month I need a couple eye surgeries.
    Still looking at the positive.

And thanks again for the kind review. As always, I do appreciate it. 🤗😘

I loved the picture of the man trying to dance. The little poem is fun filled and the last line says it all 'you'll turn it around'. This is what we say to anyone with addiction...

I like your fun poem and great illustration. It is a great play on words. In England we call it the Hokey Cokey. I wish you lots of luck in the competition. Best wishes. Jen.

Lol. Well, of all the addictions anyone could suffer from, being addicted to doing the "hokey pokey" is the least problematic. I like that you referred us to the song in the last line. Best wishes in the contest!

Lol, I had to Helen. That's what you you encourage all addictive people is to tell them that they'll turn it around. Ha!
Thanks Sweetiefor the fun comments! It felt good to write something short & fun for a change again! Hope you are doing well! I messaged Karenina but haven't heard back yet. Please let me know if you hear more about her or Sandra!

A delightful, brilliant, and fun three-liner. Of course, as a kid, I was addicted to the hokey-pokey. It was the first rhyme my older sister taught me. After a while, she put a pillow around her ears in our bedroom as I was singing it in bed.
The brilliance and creativy certainly deserves a six.
Good luck in the contest.
Mary
