Nicely done. In eastern Washington heading over the Columbia, there is a mesa that rises some 80-100 feet. On top is a sculpture of a heard of horses. Your graphic reminded me of this artwork. Wonderful. Good luck in the contest.

(BTW) you've spelt "heard" incorrectly. Lose the "a" and write "herd" for a correct spelling. cheers Bloop

I am not sure of the right way there is no right way but I would probably not end with the word 'them.' Otherwise, I love the subject matter and it is clear you love wild horses and I love all creatures great and small so keep up with your writing and I hope you win the contest.

Dear Pam, Thank you for your review and the five stars.The one and only time I met beach horses was when I was a teenager in the 50s.I was employed at a nearby convalescent home for children and was walking along the sand dunes when we met. They were as shy as wild birds,but when they thought I might have something to eat on me or about my person, they ringed me around and stood there expectantly. Waiting. There were six of them. Their expressions and their eyes especially moved me profoundly, but when they realized I had nothing for them they peeled off and trotted away in a line. I did go back one day long after this, but I never saw them again. I left the bread and carrots on the beach near the water close to where we'd met before.
I lived in hope they found them before the tide came in. cheers Bloop

Dear Helen, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I haven't had anything to do with horses my whole life. This piece comes from a dimly remembered occasion in my (now far distant) youth when I met a group of wild horses in the sand dunes near to a childrens' home where I was employed.
I was trying to think up something for the Tanka contest when this just began to "go off" in my head. So, I went with it and now here we are. cheers Bloop
