His grandfather! Not what I was expecting at all. Nor was the January 6 part expected. You wrote it well, and Ohmie has been recognised as a hero, and he's still hanging in there. Well done.

Wayne,

Good chapter. Nice revelation about Grandpa being the saboteur. Of course you know we have different world views, but this is your story, so I'll accept your creation of The Pledged. (It is fiction.) This is becoming the never-ending story. Every time you you leave us, I think the next chapter will be the last. What next? :-)

Ohmie's grandfather is a total surprise to this story, and the trip to the White House was unexpected. I keep thinking that Ohmie is on his death bed, then he takes another trip! He may just find a way to stay alive, after all.

I've never thought of the National Guard as fighting for the cause of the rioters, although I realize these nuts are part of the military. That is an interesting theory, indeed.

Good chapter, Wayne. Have a good weekend. You and Ohmie have any plans:-)

Having run across some of those Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, I agree that January 6 would have turned out differently if the National Guard had been there. So sad for Ohmie that his own grandfather has been drawn into one of those groups. My sister came off one plane we were on breathing fire about one of them sitting behind her and lecturing his POV from Minneapolis to St. Louis. This is an interesting time in Ohmie's life, but I worry about his father showing him the gun.

    Thank you for the review.
And yes, it is good to worry about guns in the hands of teenagers.

To be honest, I worry that he might end his suffering with that gun. He isn't that type of guy, but pain can turn anyone into that type of person.

What an unusual life for a boy, stricken with cancer, with two spy parents complete and equipped with beretta's to complete the unusuality of the life he was leading, with other shadowy figures appearing in his young life, beautifully written Wayne, blessings Roy

Ohmie is a wonderful example of the fact that brains are found in all types of people, whatever their physical limitations. His working out of the code is little short of genius! The political parallels in the stroy are skilfully woven in so it is never didactic!

    Thank you.
    Didacticality is bad.
    Or is that didacticism?

Well, whatever the word, I like to be credited with a brain, however tiny, and I don't like being lectured!
    Happy New Year!
