Lilies Of Lucent Light

Comment from Jasmine Girl
This poem is a descriptive and evocative piece that paints a vivid picture of a group of young girls participating in their First Holy Communion. The imagery of "lilies of lucent light" and "single file walking along the cloudless pathway" creates a sense of innocence and purity. The use of the image of the girls in "snow-white" dresses with "lacy veils" emphasizes their youth and innocence. The reference to the "pearly rosaries" and being "betrothed to the benevolent Lord in spirit" highlights the religious significance of the occasion and the connection to the divine. Overall, the poem is well-written and creates a sense of peacefulness and reverence.

Oh, I'm so glad you won. This was a very well-written and spirit-filled poem. I loved the simile used throughout the poem. And the artwork you chose for your writing was beautiful.

Hello amahra! Thank you
so much, you're so kind. I
greatly appreciate the 5 stars. I'm 65, yet I still have
fond remembrance of my
First Holy Communion all
those years ago. I hope
you're having a wondrous
first month of 2023. Many,
many blessings to you. ~

Such a nice poem. First communion can be rather daunting. The seriousness on the priest`s face and the presence of our parents under watchful eye. As children, dressing in our best. You brought to mind my own celebration.

I think you captured the spiritual purity of the moment of first communion. I liked the natural rhythms you developed in this free verse style, the free ranging feel of the language, and the images were really good. The white lilies tie in with the white gowns, the white communion wafers, the lacy veils and the light. Of course white is a traditional color of purity, so you chose well. There's this great transcendental quality to this poem, as we see these girls transformed into spiritual members of the body of Christ. estory

My deep thanks, estory!
It's
so vital to teach children our
Lord and Savior's mission
and message. When they're
old enough they can learn
how to independently study
the Bible in addition to a
teacher's instruction. I still
fondly remember my
First Holy Communion all
those years ago. I'm so glad
the other poets I'm hearing
from like this poem, it's made
my day and upcoming
weekend. Thank you for
taking the time to read and
review my poem with 5 stars.

You created quite the scene with your descriptions and wonderful alliterative phrases. I love that the lilies are blooming and represent the girls in their white dresses so well. It's lovely, from start to finish.
Congratulations on winning the prompt!
Blessings to you and yours,
Deb

I as well have only a few recollections of my first holy communion. I think I more remember the catechism classes we had to go to in preparation. As a boy, they were dreadful.
But it did give a good foundation for me later in life.
Well done, my friend.

Hello John, I remember
catechism too. My teacher
was very soft spoken and
her voice would almost cause me to nod off. My
mother kept applying to get
all five of us siblings into
Catholic school, but there
was always a waiting list.
I appreciate you taking the
time to read and give my
poem a 5 star review. I hope
you have a creative day.
Many blessings to you. ~

A fresh look at the innocence of childhood. How quickly that innocence will disappear in a few years. If we could only maintain that state of mind into adulthood.

-Very nice image and presentation, Regina.
-Thanks for sharing the notes and poem.
-The imagery is very good as you open the poem with
"the cloudless pathway of
the songbirds' garden kingdom."
-I also like "seven year old springtime."
-A very good concluding verse with
the repeated phrase from the beginning.
-I can see why you won the contest. Congratulations!

Hi Regina,
This free verse poem uses line breaks and metaphor well to describe children (it seems the females) on their first communion day. It uses the meaning of the lily as a metaphor for the light of Christ.s
Congrats on winning the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
