This naani, The High Life, has the proper formatting and takes the readers to the opposite of what the addict is searching for, but the destination he or she will reach.

Congratulations on this winning naani poem. Each carefully chosen word is loaded with the anguish and price of addiction. Best wishes for the new year.

Thank you Ginda. So appreciate you! This one just leapt from my pen... it is a bit rugged and not my usual style. :)

Sorry to have missed this riveting poem. I was I could say I hadn't witnessed this stuff, but I have. There's always someone in my life addicted to this S...! Oh if they could only see the devil within. Sending you my best today as always and congratulations on your well deserved win.

Good poem overall, technically conforms to the naani structure. The words chosen here are strong and convey a dark atmosphere, which evidently the author wanted and successfully achieved.

Whew! This is a starkly stated Naani. This is a good entry into the contest. The text is a great size. The message is clearly stated and easily understood. The visual is great and fits the text well. Good luck in the contest.

The sound of the tummy is making its way to the stomach through gurgling and rumbling sounds. They are typically caused by gas flowing through our intestines. Doctors call these types of sounds rumbling or gurgling --and more often than not, the cause is benign. Your wording is right on in this poem.

Thank you Rosemary. I appreciate your thoughts on this verse and the explanation for the sounds in the tummy. :)

Addiction has that grip of power over us and when we succumb we lose control over ourselves and fall under its spell and the groaning continues until there is another fix, the highs and lows are gut wrenching, love Dolly x

Ciao poet, you now have 8 votes.

Have you ever seen Trainspotting , it's an English film which became a cult film .. it's about Renton an heroin addict and his three nut case friends.

Here is the trailer you have to copy and paste cause I'm in bed and I need my pc to embed it. Sorry.

Listen to the words. Watch the film.

Renton gives it a try , dumps the drugs to conform to society which mean putting a noose around your neck : job, family , kids, house, car, mortgage etc.

Love the artwork I imagine that's what an addict sees when they are high but then there's inevitably the fall.

It's a shame this contest went to the booth with only 3 entries..it should have been postponed to a later date.

Thanks so much sweet Franca. I appreciate the notice about the film. I agree it would have been better to postpone it, but they didn't (:

This poem follows the rules of the Naani poetry competition and is very emotive and guttural. It describes the physical pangs associated with addiction well and read smoothly. It is also a clever idea for a poem so well done and good luck with it.
