I truthfully never heard the wail of a lion, but based on your words, it must be a sad and lonely wail.
A very emotional and haunting Tanka.
Best wishes

What an incredible tanka and a wonderful picture, Gypsy. The Loon's winter wail is something phenomenal to hear, I do believe it is something one has to hear to describe it. Very well done and sadly enjoyed. Blessed Be n Hugs!!!

I really like this one and can feel the melancholy and angst in the words of this superbly written Tanka. The flow and satori are well done and the embedded emotion adds depth and resonance. Well done, Gypsy.

I can totally see that because the loon's sound does such a mournful cry which can "spear the heart." I especially like your description of the loons' habitat "gray dusk mist settles
upon the reeds
where the loons' winter"

Another fine poem, Gypsy----that all well and good, but wouldn't you miss my misery wail? I'd like to think I'd rank right up there with a loon, any loon!
