Well, this is under sixty words. I count fifty-seven. The contest calls for a complete story. You have a beginning, a middle, and an ending, complete with a change in emotion from your main character, with reason. That's a full story.

Subtle, very subtle. Good job Father David.
I understand that some people have never been trained in social etiquette, proper table manners, and certain graces. A man who's never been to church may not know he's to remove his hat out of respect and reverence. We should all be glad that he's in church!

So apparently the vicar was saying that he should be taking his hat off in church or is he just commenting on his observation. I tend to think it's the former. Good luck in the contest.

This brings up a memory for me. I was raised Catholic (I know, I know.) When I was in grade school, we went to mass every morning before school. Girls had to wear a veil on their heads. Boys could NOT wear a hat. I was like, HUH? Wait a minute. If girls have to have something on their heads, why do I have to take my hat off? I got the standard answer nuns gave to any question like that... "Don't ask questions!"

It's funny, church can affect one that way, being neat and tidy in church, with that old adage, 'keeping up appearances' while socially comfortable. But not if the religious police appear. Beautifully written my friend, good luck, blessings Roy
