When my father passed at home, his dog went to his bedside and kept vigil.

Your poem is so truthful. Many soldiers pass and their companion dog will perhaps lie near or on their plot. I really like your poem. It can bring tears to a person's eyes.

Ciao ! I was the film and it was heartbreaking.
I have had many pets and when they die I have always let the others see and sniff the body so they can understand that he or she is dead. They do understand death.
The owner had an heart attack at work and the wife and family never thought to show Hachiko his body before the burial so as far as the poor dog knew , his beloved owner had left with the train (for work) and he just keep going back waiting for his return. it's obvious he loved his owner immensely.
Very sad .. I read there is a statue there now of Hachiko.
