This is funny. I don't know about free verse not having cadence, some see to, or at least a certain flow. Your attempt certainly seemed to flow off the tongue (and cheek).

Avery inventive post. It put a smile on my face. Well done.

I may not have succeeded in my attempt at free verse, but at least I put a smile on your face. Thanks for the great review.

Hey, I happen to love rhyming poetry. I grew up in the fifties, and most poetry was written in rhyme. I love this silly piece you have penned for us. I got a good laugh from it. Nice work.

If I can't write free verse very well, at least I'm successful at something: I made you laugh.

    Thanks for the great review!

Very honest and amusing. I'm wondering if you might possibly be sending free verse writers up? Seriously, there are so many great poets like Keats and Tennyson who produced wonderful poems which followed all the rules!

    Oh, you're onto me!

I do, though, truly admire well thought out and constructed free verse poems (like your own). But even with free verse it's best to have a few rules: like have a good reason for not using any punctuation, or have a good reason for why lines are broken where they are.

Every word should be carefully selected to impart the right meaning and mood, otherwise it just becomes prose.

The trouble with free verse, the way they think of it, is that it binds one to the stilted boundaries, the truth of the matter is, they can't write rhyming poetry, they can't really write free verse either, they're reducing poetry to prose, and anybody can do that. Why don't they go back in time and tell Willie Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Yeats, Shelley Lovelace, they're not poets well done Jim, blessings Roy

Well, I didn't want to be so blunt about it, but I agree with you. Most of it seems very arbitrary--with words all over the place, little punctuation, often no capitals, and strange word choices. Much of it does seem like prose.

Now there are some very good free verse poems, but they are more the exception. I have a feeling that many free verse poets enjoy what they consider the freedom from following any rules, but as with raising kids without any rules, the results are often undesirable.

Too fun, well done! Rhyming comes naturally to some. These poems clearly convey the poet's message, with effective choice of imagery and language. The use of the graphic also worked well for this reader. I hope you keep on composing such verse.
