This poem with its lifegiving message is profound and deep as is the picture of the little child in her bathing suit pedaling softly and furiously reaching out for guidance and freedom to become a full-fledged adult one day. I love the author's notes and the truth they speak. Well done, my dear friend and so glad you won the contest. You deserved it!

I am delighted your well-crafted little poem won this contest! It is well deserved and I am pleased for your success. The sentiment expressed (and the photo choice) catches the sweet feel of achievement when gaining independence.

    Congratulations!
I must admit I began to find a lot of contributed submissions tedious, trite, and/or depressing and I began to tune out, plus it was eating into my time too much. Covid is rampant again and as I have stayed healthy I am being relied on to fill the gaps in volunteer rosters in 3 places, plus trying to prepare artwork for an exhibition.
    Sending you happy Christmas greetings.

Yes, I understand. It does eat into one's time too much, and I intend to watch that this coming year (if I continue). Yes, my son's family have Covid at present, and my eldest daughter and her family have just recovered from a hefty dose. It's everywhere. Best wishes for your art exhibition!

Hi Wendy,
This picture goes with the words of the poem. Learning to swim on your own in freeing. This also can be about letting your children be independent as they grown up.
Congrats on winning the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Happy Holidays.
Joan

Hi Wendy,
Yes, it's not easy to let go, to charge ahead. And it isn't easy to let our children or grandchildren go either. But there is reward for being brave... "happy glow, joy to see".
I've always been rather shy to get up in front of people, even today at 72. But I threw caution to the wind when I was around 33. I got up the stage with a band I formed, The Potter's Clay", and sang at a Gospel concert. It took a few songs to settle down, but then I found confidence and joy in what I was doing. Since then, I went on to give many concerts with just another woman. The two of us carried entire evening services, performing about 14 or 15 songs. Fear does hold you back. Regret will follow. But if you charge ahead, joy awaits. This poem is not just for kids!
Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you very much for reviewing. You have understood very well the various applications of this poem. You must have a beautiful singing voice. What a wonderful ministry. There will have been many people greatly blessed because you let go of your fears. Thank you again.

Love this! When my son was four I signed him up for swimming lessons...

We went twice a week for six weeks, so twelve lessons.

He sat on the edge of the pool for the first eleven...

The instructor was brilliant!

She'd come sit by him as his little feet dangled in the water and quietly explain each step...

Never once chastised him.

The last lesson?

He jumped into the water...into her arms and laughed and laughed!

Tears in my eyes.

He let go and swam to me!

I learned a lot about courage from him that day!

Yes, we can all learn from children about such things as courage. That is so wonderful, and very moving! How hard it is for all of us to really let go of whatever is holding us back, but what freedom when we do. (This is Charlotte, aged six, my number four grandchild.)

Good life lessons In your two line poem Wendy and in your notes. It is those little things welearn, we teach, that help to make us independent adults who know how to make decisions, life choices. Good luck in the contest. Cheers
