The last line certainly gave me a chuckle. I really like this style of verse. It is so straight to the heart of what is wished to 'impose' or maybe 'expose' to the anticipating reader. Nice work.

Hi Kaiku, thanks for the lovely review and comments. I guess what really surprised me is how many people haven't seen the old classic movie, but that became a classic line after that, "you'll shoot your eye out." My family loves it so I hope the fact that a BB gun doesn't bother people too much. Thanks again for the great comments.

Debi dear,

This is darling in this 5-7-5 form and reminiscent of the movie. I remember my brothers having a BB Gun and how our mother issued the same warning! Thank you for the video too. Great fun!

Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sal xoxo's!

I saw this movie on an advertising newspaper in the 80s. It was a comedy movie like no other. Excellent work! No mistakes found in your poetry. Thank you for sharing!

Very cute and I hate to say, competitive for the contest. My family and I have watched this movie for years. I even bought a Red Rider BB gun and the BBs do bounce back unpredictively. Thanks Rickie

This is a good 5-7-5 contest entry. The text is a great size. The message is clearly stated. Everyone believed the BB gun would hurt the kids when they first came out. I don't remember too many kids getting hurt, but I do remember several windows in houses getting hit, and several kids getting whippings. The visual is cute. Good luck in the contest.

I loved this poem about "A Christmas Story." It's one of my favorite movies of the season, and I loved that you ended with the quote, "You'll shoot your eye out!" Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Debi, I have never watched A Christmas Story, but after your poem and others who have recently wrote about the movie. I have it on my hit list to watch this Christmas. Not knowing the story, I didn't get the humor until after watching the YouTube. Thank you for sharing that and enlightening me and others who have been living under a rock. Good rhyming scheme, well-chosen photo. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck.

Thanks so very much Margaret for such a lovely review of this even tho I know you haven't seen it yet. It is weird tho that I know I already wrote a thank you to this because I suggested that you and Steve watch it during the holidays. So if you do, let me know what you think. For for as long as I remember, because we always celebrated Christmas Eve, we would put it on about 4 and it ran in the background until we went to bed. We've all seen it so much that we'd just look here and there and laugh and just a fun tradition. Thanks again my SOTU and I appreciate you and your kind words so much!

Congrats on summarizing the whole movie into a rhyming 5-7-5! Thanks for the preview of that movie. I had only seen snippets of it and each time, I couldn't relate to the story at all so it went over my head. Judiverse recently wrote about the movie with some fun facts about it.
Best wishes in the contest!

Thanks Helen for reading and reviewing this, and I think I know you well enough to know that you may have a little problem with it because it revolves around a gun. If you don't mind I would just like to share a little something with you. Here in Mn, in our small corner of the world, in our little rural area where every red blooded American boy had a BB gun before the age of 7, learned respect for firearms, taught correctly and grounded and taken away if rules not followed,, knew how to use a bigger gun when it was time to learn to hunt. And all in an area of 0% crime.
Now if you go into North MPLS, where fathers are very much absent, so these kids were probably never taught anything about guns, and because they had all the free time to run the streets, get in w bad crowds and buy guns off the street, here is where the crime happens. If back here, we didn't teach our boys this respect when little, and have them hunt, two bad things happen. The overpopulation of deer cause more accidents than what we already have. I have lost a friend to a deer running into her car, and almost every person I know who drives, has had at least one deer car crash. But never a death from a boy taught correctly how to hunt.Accident s happen but they happen in every way of life. It is hard to watch people always talk guns like they were created equal. If boys didn't have fishing and hunting here, then they too may start running w bad crowds, go out and ignorantly buy a gun and kill for drugs, because boredom does crazy things to youth.
As a country girl, I can't imagine living without hunters in our family. They hunt for the meat not the sport. I've lived that life since childhood, and it is unfair for those who don't understand to judge the motives and the wonderful ethics of parents doing something good for their youth because of people wanting to blame all guns for killing. People are responsible for killing. Guns don't kill that are in the hands of responsible people. I just had to share my views with you because I have had a few make me feel like this was a bad choice of post because of those feelings.
I'm not thinking that you were one, but just needed to talk to a Christian sister who might understand. Thank you my dearest of friends!

Oh, I have friends who are hunters so guns aren't the issue for me in the movie. It's a culture that I didn't relate to so couldn't find it funny - even the leg lamp. We don't do the Santa thing either so all of it seemed strange to me.

Well thank you for listening to me, my dear friend. I take things to heart too easily and after posting an innocent, feel good and fun post, I was just a little hurt that there has to be any negativity from anyone. We can't all agree but I never give anyone a hard time if I do disagree with their post. I have been working really hard, not able to sleep and in lots of pain, so maybe a little touchier than normal. It sure can be hard being human sometimes. Lol... but I also find that trying to do things, but the more I walk with the walker it makes it much worse. ... I have been praying and thinking about your situation. How is your dad doing? Your daughter, mom and you too??
reply by lyenochka on 30-Nov-2022
Thanks for asking, Debi. My dad is now on hospice and can't talk really now. My brother's there now and I'll probably go there soon. I'm praying for the Lord's peace on everyone and that Dad will be ready to meet Jesus. I'll be praying for you, Debi. Please don't push yourself too hard. Give yourself time to recover between exercises. Hugs and prayers!! 💖💖🙏🙏🙏

I am praying extra for your him to accept the blood of The Lamb for your dad's salvation.

Debi,

How clever of you to blend the classic "A Christmas Story" with the ever-present 5-7-5 poetry format. Poor Ralphie. I'm pretty sure my brother had a BB gun, but I'm not sure if it was a Red Ryder.

Sue
