A great story about a serious subject. It is sad when your children are no longer involved in your life. They have to grow up and do their own thing, but as for this mama, I wish mine were around more. You did a great job. Shirley

Thanks, Shirley. Do they live far from you? I hope Christmas brings you all together.

Thank you so much for your kind words. No, they don't live far from me, but family dynamics are involved. I had to leave them in God's hands.

Who says vacation trips and having fun are exclusive to the young? Seniors, all the more must indulge in this spontaneous experiment of enjoying nature, braving the unexpected and learning to live again. I enjoyed reviewing your post.

This is very cute what you have written. You used very good descriptive words and very neat imagery from the art work you chose. I was so glad they didn't try to kill themself. I enjoyed reading and reviewing. love and blessings, Teri

thanks, Teri. It was sort of a take-off on that movie, Thelma and Louise. I couldn't resist the play on names. :) and of course, it had to have a happy ending (unlike the movie)

Yeah right, you teetered on the edge of humor and pathos until the final curtain was ready to descend, and then (Thankfully!) you picked up the beat and had the ladies realize what they were really doing.
Great dialogue! Exactly the exchange those two contrasting personalities would have had.
When the echoes reached their children from the vacation site, the kid's reactions were more than satisfying.
And, the busy lives of present generation children often leads to big spaces in their communications with their families.
Good work,
irish

When Elaine and I talk about dying, our daughters both go into harmonious paroxysms of LA LA LA LA. They refuse to listen, but we've been through, our parents were never going to die, or pass from view, which sounds like, these days the celebrate someone's life, I suppose we can't celebrate death, I don't fear death, but I'm not looking forward to the process, well done, blessings Roy

My daughter and I have talked about "it" but I haven't made any arrangements which I have GOT to do, but I came upon this book that you're supposed to put all the information in that would be helpful to your children after you're gone, so they can take care of things that need taking care of, and the title struck me as funny. Had to get it. It said, "I'm Dead. Now What?" My daughter rolled her eyes!
I have a strange sense of humor.
Thanks for reading my story, Roy, and for your comments. I'm not looking forward to it either!

Your story was interesting, keeping my attention as I definitely wanted to know what happened. I really liked the character sketches you gave at the beginning of Stella and Ru--they were very well done.
There's a sentence that doesn't quite make sense, 'I know what let's do.' Everything else looks good. Thanks so much for sharing.

thanks for reading and for your comments, which I appreciate.
To me, the sentence makes sense. She's suggesting what they should do next. I've often heard it said.

I'm glad Stella and Eva Marie changed their minds. Suicide is such a drastic solution, and a pact so often ends with the participants egging each on too far. I did fear that when they egged each other on to swim with the rays that was going to end badly, but they lived to spend again! Kate xx

Actually my daughter swam with them one time and said it was a blast. That's what made me think of it.
Thanks for reading and for your comments. It is a take-off on the old movie, Thelma and Louise, but with a happy ending.

This work has reached the exceptional level

I kept thinking those two were not really serious, then they seemed to be. Then they learned how to live their lives without any expectations of what their kids do, and they find they love life. This is a really good story where you didn't tell us immediately what they wanted to do and then when we know it seems unlikely and then they seem to actually mean it. Very good buildup of tension and a fun ending.

thanks so much, Carol! for your neat review and for the lovely 6!!
Wasn't sure what age to make them, but figured if they married young, they could still be young enough to go out and have fun at the end.
