I thought I should take a peek at your work and this is what I discover!

This is a wonderful poem, I loved it.
Leading us from the pre-storm forecast, through the day of gambolling leaves, a misty sunset and the overnight snow, to the calm and tranquility of a snow-silenced town. Beautiful.

Congratulations on a very deserving win.

. . . Oh dear, I think the bar may have been lifted a little too high for me.

Charlotte

First of all, I want to congratulate you on your win. It was so well deserved.
Now, a Nor'easterly is not to be sneezed at. They are vicious and spells trouble. I loved your poem. Ulla:)))

Let's see, Rod... coastal Nor'easter right now? You must be up around Maine somewhere. I only just got my first snow today and I'm just south of Montreal. So far as I know, there hasn't been a flake in RI yet... and believe me, I'd know! Nothing's been that cold.
Where are you, Rod?
Loved the poem btw... congratulations on the win!
Susan :)

Actually, I live in Chicago and we got our first snow Monday. But the system was pushing east. Glad you liked the poem, Susan, and thanks for the congrats. Rod

Ahhhh.... Lake effect snow they call it, but I hear that living on the Great Lakes really can be like living on the ocean. I've heard about ships going down on the lakes, like they go down on the ocean, never to be found again in those lakes.
As for me, I was born and raised on the RI coast in Narragansett, so I've grown up with it all. Now I'm in the mountains of Vermont and loving it! They had their first bomb cyclone last winter, I knew what it was, we have them in RI all the time. It was a first for the NEK. lol Guess I brought them with me!

CONGRATULATIONS on your first-place win, Rod. You
did a great job with your awesome poem about the first
winter storm. Your words were descriptive and painted a
great picture for readers--even if no picture had been
included. However, I liked the one you chose. Your line
wee smooth to read with good rhymes. Your word
carefully chosen and created great imagery.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Superb use of metaphors and alliteration and great choice of rhymes. You described the effects of the storm well and I really liked the fairy dance of the leaves. A well deserved win!!

Having been through many a Nor'easter, this felt like being back in Connecticut again. As much as I enjoyed these when I was younger and my children were too, I'm so glad that I live in Florida now!

This is rhymed well, and I noticed there are a lot of words that begin with the letter 'S' - was that intentional? It works well here. Enjoyed this poem.

I am pleased my poem brought back memories of storms and snow in Connecticut. Many thanks, Pam, for your kind praise. Yes, the use of S?s was intentional as that letter works best at suggesting the mood of snowfall. Rod

This poem was a real treat for me. First, as a fan of rhymed structured poetry I admired your fine meter and rhyming.

As, as someone who lived in New York for decades and now lives in Florida, any mention of snow is like a balm to my nostalgia (smile). Yes, I know, Northeaster can be quite rough, here we only have hurricanes (lol), though rough too. I just miss snow. I miss it all the time.

Wonderful imagery, visuals, artistic presentation and the artwork chosen. Best of luck in the contest.

This is a beautifully written rhyming poem. I love snow, too and finally got some. I hope I can go skiing very soon. We will go up north to our place on Lake Superior in December for two weeks. It looks like we can ski.

I like the metaphors you used:
like pillows split, their innards spilt.

It's very visual.

Excellent.

I can only imagine what it must be like way up by Lake Superior once the snow flies. Thank you so much, Jasmine Girl, for your wonderful response to my poem and all those bright stars. Rod

That is a very nice poem, beautifully written. I think it is a very good entry for the rhyming contest. Good luck with the entry. I live in Texas, and the experience of a Nor'easter is only something I have seen on TV. Your imagery is excellent. Well done. Terry.
