I remember the movie 'Shaft' and I happen to be fan of Isaac Hayes. Thank you for sharing this writing prompt with us. I happen to have known a rooster like that. He was not a nice fellow. I enjoyed reading.

Thanks for the review. Yes, some roosters tend to be quite aggressive.

This was great. I love roosters, and yours look quite royal. I once penned a poem about a rooster myself, calling it "A Rooster's Minuet." They are beautiful and intelligent animals/birds (lol, whatever they call them), but can be quite boisterous and uncontrollable.

It was lots of fun, thumbs up for your imagery, visuals and artistic presentation. Good luck in the contest.

"Shaft" is a really cool piece. A suave character this black Jersy Rooster and he seems to dictate to others their place in the roost and the surrounding farms. Loved this one, Sandra! Best, JohnC

Fantastic photo of the rooster. I was enjoying your poem until it changed and you started talking about
shaft the actor. Personally, I would have stuck with a poem about the beautiful and feisty bird. No need to read between the lines with grubby talk. You can't mix humans with King Rooster, it doesn't work.

That was the prompt requirement. Personify the animal as a person. Thanks for the review.

I loved it, it was my favourite in the whole contest.
My uncle had a magnificent white rooster. He was one of the most cunning animals I have ever seen. The whole family was so fond of him :)
Thank you very much for your poem :)

This rooster is one bad mother. I loved this poem, laughed out loud, and commented about it when I voted for you. Obviously you won't catch Mother Theresa because she is blessed and sanctified, but I thought this piece was great with its hidden meanings and suggestive wording.

Nice work!

Doug, thank you for your fun review. I don't mind being second to a Mother Teresa poem. I agree she is a blessed and sanctified person. There was a discussion about making her a saint. She doesn't need sainthood on earth because she for sure got it in heaven.

Uh - ok. This surely is a different twist on Richard Roundtree's most famous role and yet as he controlled the hood, Shaft II is in control of its fems just as the man Shaft did himself. *****

That rooster had it going on. Love that name. The dang tune was playing in my head the entire time I was reading. Favorite line was the other roosters worrying about their cock and doodle dos. Fun poem to read this morning. Gretchen

Creative, great personification, enjoyed the read. Your poem followed all the rules and was very entertaining. The picture added that special touch. Together they make a perfect combo. Good luck in the contest.

You have done well with your ode based on Isaac Hayes' song Shaft. A perfect fit for a cocky rooster, as this fellow seems to fit the bill quite well.

Wishing you great luck in the voting booth with this clever idea. :))
