I'm hooked. I love your writing style. Your depiction of the characters is well done. Also, I can visualize the scene through your excellent descriptions. On to chapter 3!

Another chapter finished. I think it could be turned into a movie or series. That's it, a series of solving each case. Just a thought, that's how good I think it is. Until Chapter 3.

Given what is happening to children in so many places around the world, a story of this kind is appropriate and timely. Evil is among us, and any examples of how to deal with it are welcome. I commend your courage in taking on this difficult topic in such a unique story compared to all your prior stories.

In Section One, we learn what the colors of Dr. Stuart's pindots mean, particularly that orange represents the sole escape by Jo Jenkins. We also learn that Joe Santucci, former chief of Aspen Grove police, fled when confronted for not stopping the disappearance of innocents, after which Hank Riley became the AGPD captain.

In Section Three, Tommy is out to find Phoebe's missing silver cross somewhere in or near where her body was found. He was not prepared to encounter the appearance of angel Patience who handed it to him and offered to help him, which she demonstrates by morphing into a huge lion to chase away the demon Nix when he appears.

Consequently, Tommy no longer fears what he may have to face in order to bring Phoebe's killer and his cohorts to justice, for the sake of ALL the victims they had harmed. Thus, as I said in my review of Chapter One, this is a huge case of related serial murders.

Superb, and aptly illustrated.

    Dear Mike,

Thank you for the superb review and gracious stars. Your comments are insightful and spot on. I have based this loosely on the story of Tim Miller, a Texas father who'd lost his daughter under mysterious circumstances. He, too, got involved in her case after law enforcement drooped the ball. He ultimately because a consultant for the police, (much like Doc Stuart) when he figured out the killer's pattern. He actually found the creep, confronted him, and was just about to shoot him when a voice said, "There's many more!" Tim checked himself into a hospital and got his anger under control and received the help he needed. I actually finished writing chapter one before I read his true story, and I thought the similarities were mind blowing. Stay tuned!

Sending you my best today as always,
    Sal :)))))

You are most welcome, Sal. You are right about the similarities, which proves that your story is entirely plausible. Reviewing Chapter Three is my next goal. :))) -- Mike

You are again welcome, Sal. This story grows in importance as it continues because the overall theme is relevant to present events in our entire real world. :)) -- Mike

Patience is an interesting angel. Phoebe was killed and hopefully they find the one who did the dirty work. Patience I am sure will help Phoebe's dad? Good thing they are out looking for clues.

Very clever: "Do you see how the pins form an upside down cross with Aspen Grove at the center?" Nice simple descriptive setting: "The day was getting prettier by the minute, and I was ready to go outside." Interesting genre. I am curious as to where this will lead.

This is proving a most interesting novel with the spiritual slant adding to solving the crime.

Excellent definition of the setting, sound dialogue and the plot moving forward at a cautious yet determined pace.

Another well done chapter here.

Sal, another great chapter. In this review the focus is on how I experienced the work and what resonates.

Sparkling in this writing:
-On the combination of spirituality and crime solving: you do a wonderful job in exploring that. It is worth it to explore that, particularly for the number of cold case files out there that go unsolved. Your writing choices explore the lengths that great detectives are prepared to go to solve a case. In fact I remember one investigative show where the homicide detective was able to solve a crime through his faith and by profiling the suspect criminal by what he had bookmarked in his bedside bible.

-On the allegory of patience transforming into a lion in the story:
It is a very interesting avenue to explore the virtues needed in crime solving in the same way that profilers view the three common components that are characteristic and recurrent in every homicide. The components being: money, revenge and.... So what are those virtues that are common in crime solving, for example, and how do they manifest in your story?

-Great device of Patience. It raises an interesting question. Could it be that the detective is about to come face to face with his own flaws, doubts as a human being?

Looking forward to the next chapter and how it develops. All the best.
M.

I don't know how I missed these! How creepy. I wouldn't want to be the detective trying to deal with these things. Seems to me they need a priest more than a cop. How do you arrest a demon?

Wow!
Hi Sally,
Well, this is certainly going to be a different type of murder mystery. It surprised me that you'd venture into the spiritual realm with this investigation.
Of course, I realize that there is an invisible war going on. Satan and his demons want souls to join them in hell, but God has prepared a home for us in Heaven. He's done all He can to secure us, to save us, by sending His Son to die on the cross for our sins. Christ paid the price, and now the choice is ours. God is not a bully. He gave us freedom to choose which way we'll go.
There is a physical world we can see, and a spiritual world we can't see. Both are realities, the visible and the invisible. Seldom do the two meet. And this is why I pause to wrap my head around this twist in the story, with Tommy walking into this new "dimension". It seems unreal. But I must believe it can happen. For example, the shepherds beholding the angel that strange night when Jesus was born. He told them, "Fear not! For, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."
And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
In extreme circumstances, perhaps the invisible world must become visible. The shepherds were chosen to spread the news that a Savior had been born. But the angel had to convince them not to be afraid first of all. He told them right off the bat... "Fear not!"
You did a dandy job introducing Patience and Nix into the scene. It gives the reader, (or at least, it should) that there is some real evil going on around Aspen Grove. The coroner's map of 42 disappearances since 1980 gives evidence in the physical world. And the appearance of Nix puts the exclamation mark on the assumption. I think, though, Tommy should be showing a little more fear on the appearance of these spiritual beings. I don't know how you might manage this. And I don't want to suggest anything. But this would have been a fearful sight for anyone. Tommy's initial reaction might be to run for his life when Nix arrives. That's the way I see it. Just a suggestion, and not to be overdone, but perhaps Patience can coax him out of hiding after she resumes her primary status, lion back to a "little girl with opal hair and skin". It might take a lot of coaxing.
Looking forward to Chapter 3! I wonder, will Tommy tell anyone about his encounter? I also wonder, how many churches are there in Aspen Grove? Wouldn't it be good to visit a few of them? Have they noticed anything out of the ordinary? Have they felt any evil in their community? Could they be of any help in the investigation?
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you for the wonderful review and generous stars, dear Kim. This will definitely be a different book for sure. There has always been a battle between good and evil, light and dark. For whatever reason, we don?t always connect the this to crimes and the demonic activity behind them, or the fight over the souls within a city or town much like Aspen Grove. It?s just getting started, so do stay tuned. Sending you my best today as always,
