This is a very relatable poem for many new moms. Postpartum blues is a major issue for many mothers. The text is an okay size. The message is clearly a cry for help, but it seems it will not be coming from the father. If this is based on a true event, hopefully the mom will get the help she needs. I would suggest you drop the poem down one space from the bottom of the visual. The title does not need to be on the poem. The visual fits perfectly. Good luck in the contest.

This speaks of a woman who has given birth but is left with regrets called T"he Blues".

A very touching poem. Postpartum depression is real and not always appreciated for its severity.

The poem flows well. The rhymes are unforced. Glad to see the word myrrh--too many people avoid unusual words in poetry. The images are well-defined. The narrative stays on point. The concluding couplet sums up the poem well.

Thanks for a good read.

Are you a male or female? Mario is normally associated being masculine but in today's world, no one can be sure. As for this writ. Wow. If you wrote it from a woman's perspective as a man, I only hope you are a male and that the mother who holds the child. What darken thoughts are so expressed, it is worrisome.

Oh my goodness this is such a very sad sonnet filled with anxiety and hopelessness. This Mother needs a lot of help and support, a well worded, rhymed and metered poem, love Dolly x

Lovely to meet again, dear Dolly...!!
I have seen first hand the dramatic results of this unseen but how much prevalent syndrome. I wish all partners of women who endure this after birth, could be educated and not just dismiss it as a mere "hormone thing".
Thank you for your kind review!

A very compelling topic and serious issue dealing with postpartum depression. Disturbing images reflecting what some women, men and families face.

Important to sensitize on this issue with your author's voice and through poetry. This does, however, appear to hover somewhat close to the edge of infanticide.
On the other hand, could this, perhaps, mobilize more voices to speak out, rallying for help around an issue some may face? Was that your intention?
All the best in the contest.

    Hello,
Thank you so much for your elaborate review and the 5-stars. You are right, we don't want to play around such a prickly subject. I agree with you about the extreme wish to kill, but, I have seen first hand how women did things which baffled even the closest ones. When my wife gave birth to our third child, she became like a crazy person for weeks, accusing me of colluding with her mother to put her in mental institution, accusing me of sleeping with her too. Fortunately her mom was a nurse, and that's when I became aware of that syndrome. There was at that same time, a mother accused of choking her baby to death and she was found guilty and went to prison. The issue I wanted to raise was the fact that the partner's ignorance on that dreadful sickness. Many men walk off, just blaming the "hormones "... too easy to say. I think people should be educated on this issue, which is, believe it or not, very common these days.
    Thanks so much for reading!!!

The author's words are heartfelt, sad, descriptive and creative. I pondered
on these words and thought about depression and how is it so hard to
come out of. These words left me still pondering The poem flows and
connects well. The artwork goes well with the theme and words of this poem.

I understand the post-partum depression, though your words are a bit scary. After all, it's not her fault to be brought to this earth. Such harsh words for this wonderful little creature. Babies are sacred. On the technical merit this sonnet is flawless, and a sonnet is my favorite form. Good luck in the site's contest.

    Hi,
Thank you so much for reading and liking the technical aspect of the sonnet. It's my favourite type of poetry too.I realise the first quatrain contains harsh words, and I am very sorry this has upset you a bit. I don't know if I have time, but I will try to amend it.
    Thank you again.
