This is a very depressing but well written treatice on the direction the world had taken. I don't tweet and neither do I text. I'm a dinosaur and I've fine with that. I look in the mirror and talk face to face with myself. Not really. I avoid mirrors and I hate smart phones. It is no fun being around people who own them. It is getting harder to do business anymore without one, It you don't have a app on your phone you can't read the menu or pay the bill. I want to time travel back to 1950.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the poem. I agree 100%. Technology is taking us away from each other, not closer together. I'd rather interact with a waitress or waiter or clerk than some emotionless machine. estory

Social media can build you up and tear you down and you wonder what happened, it is not a genuine reflection of life and fake profiles can fool with their dishonesty, is it worth it? A poignant write, the pop up adds are the worst invention and noticed recently at the airport that they disrupt the flight delights with adds! Love Dolly x

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the piece. I have enjoyed all the little stories of people's personal issues with social media. In general, while it seems convenient, it is making life worse, not better. It is making some people richer. estory

The information age, the ease of communication, online banking, bill pay through our handheld computers/cameras/calculators, etc. etc. Along with the ease and the comfort, comes the threat, the danger. There will always be that crook, that sneak who seeks to rob and defraud. So what are we to do? Shall we reject modernity? There have been crooks and thieves through out history. I guess the answer is as it has always been. There is no free lunch. Keep your eyes and ears open to every scheme, and hope for the best.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the piece. I am glad it made so many think. Technology is seductively convenient. But it is also emotionless and sinister. I'd rather interact with a bank teller or a clerk or waitress than an emotionless machine. estory

I like this word you used in the title "depersonalization", which sounds a lot like "decentralization" which has been used a lot with crypto currency. This word "depersonalization" sounds negative for sure. As a loner most of my life, recently I found myself missing seeing people. I stay home working remotely three out of four weeks per month and only go to work rarely. I joined rowing club which I was a member 30 years ago. My husband have to take lessons while I still remember how to row.

Well said and well done.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the piece. I like to make people think about the world and their place in it, and I did that with this piece, I guess. I was surprised to find it the most popular post of this series so far. estory

Yes, yes, and yes, estory. Everything you mentioned, I
agreed with you. Your words were well chosen, there was
smooth flow, and a true message. Social media has gone
overboard. I, too, miss everything about the person to person
interaction. The automated tech world is so impersonal.

Thank you for sharing this poem with us. I feel we need to get back to face to face communication. People have forgotten how to do it. Yet, humans are social being. You did a good job with this poem.

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective and support for the piece. Social media is seductively convenient, but also dehumanizing and basically a self grandized popularity contest. People have lost respect for each other, and learned to bullshit like never before. Witness the explosion of violence in this country and the loss of respect in society. estory

Thank you so much for sharing this deer Estory. I much prefer FanStory over social media. I don't care for Facebook other than to promote my books. I'm barely on there and it's usually with people I already know and have a relationship with. I can't see the little buttons anyway and stuff goes flying to who knows where.

It doesn't seem very safe to me, and the stuff that you mentioned here is just so devilish. The devil lives in those corridors and it makes me sick. I much prefer talking face-to-face or to people I know, or on FanStory that I have established a good relationship with. Don't get me wrong, there's bad people on here too, but I avoid them at all costs. They've made themselves known to me early on. Thankfully, the good far away is the bad. I so enjoyed this and thank you again for sharing.

Sending along my very best to you and yours as always, Sally XOs

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting comments on my piece. I spend about 95 or 96% of my social media time on Fanstory. At least this site promotes artistic interaction and the sharing of ideas and philosophies in a mostly civil manner. Facebook is a facillitator of rumors, gossip and crimes and a sinister means for the compilation of data on us that is sold for profit. If anything it's MY information and I should profit from it. But it has / is made people rich so there you go. estory

After reading your poem, I think a better title might be your 'The Depersonalization of Interaction' that you have above. It's much more accurate to your poem and more attention grabbing. (Though after I type this, I realize there might not be enough space in that title line.)
It's a weird thing that we are now more connected than ever through technology but somehow further apart. The interaction is only skin deep, not enough to satisfy the deep longings we have as humans for connection.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the piece. What you mention here is exactly what I am trying to get across; technology is seductively convenient, but also hollow, emotionless and sinister. It is not connecting people through their souls, it is killing their souls by encouraging a total lack of respect for others, a lack of respect even for life, and a mindless pursuit of instant gratification. Witness the explosion of violence in this country and the total lack of respect in society. All of this coincides with the explosive use of social media. estory

Yes, yes, yes! I couldn't agree with you more!
There is something sinister about the fake social media interactions that crowd our minds and souls! I do not participate in social media but I have heard enough to know that it is wrong for a society to gather information while encouraging folks to share what they think and feel. Thank you for writing this prose piece and for telling it like it is! I have come to the conclusion that the only way in person-to-person communication is best for me and my friends.

Hello Estory, a good day to you, I hope this finds you well. I liked your piece of commentary here. To me social media should be called anti-social media, it seems to divide us more than unite us. Any bully, crazy, hate-filled lune, or troll can sit behind a keyboard and cause chaos. Good job!

Thanks for the excellent review and your commentary on the piece. You seem to have a sense of exactly what I was trying to get across here. Social media has not connected us, it has facillitated rumors, gossip, crime; it has encouraged a lack of respect for each other, even for life, and it has led to a mindless pursuit of self gratification through instant pleasures and excitement. It is the voice of the anti christ. Seductively convenient. estory
