Excellent work! You have us all agog over the splendor of the oak trees, but then remind us that they produce a lot of acorns, and they fall with considerable noise when they land on the roof. Oh, yes, the squirrels will have a lot of fun gathering them. This is their busy time of year. Escellent rhyme and flow. judi

You're welcome. It's funny someone else on the site mentioned her roof being pounded with acorns. judi

Hello Katharine,
I would imagine that it would be a nuisance having to deal with the acorns. I guess I never realized the numbers that were unleashed. Do you have to worry about them destroying your windows during a wind storm? I used to hunt squirrels down in Charleston in the woods were there were tons of Oaks. Deer like them too and I think that wild pigs might enjoy them as well. I'm sure the shade is appreciated on those hot Texas summer days. Thanks for sharing gal.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

They haven't hit the windows "en mass" (however you spell it), but they are lots in the driveway, and in my pool, and the treees aren't finished yet.
Did yall eat the squirrels?? sniff

Yep, sorry, we were living on around $5,000.00 a year when I was in the navy, so I used to supplement my income with fish and whatever game I could shoot.

This is a fun poem. Yes, those oak trees do produce a lot of nuts, most noticeable during a windstorm. So happy you have lots of squirrels to frolic in the nut storm and hide them away for the winter.

I'm sorry to burst you breaking news report on acorns, but we have gazillions. I know, we counted. It's impossible to believe, but it's true. And the squirrels here are militant. A fun one, dear Katherine.

Sending you my best today as always,
Sal XOs

I have two oak trees so I can relate. They, too, are beautiful but provide the neighborhood squirrels a feast in Autumn. The acorns and sprigs of leaves cover my driveway for weeks. Your poem was fun to read.

I love the narrative style. By accentuating the passersby slowing down to look and take pictures makes me see a majestic landscape at this property, but then comes the downside, those pesky acorns. Yet, in the end, even they have an upside. Nice contrast of emotions here.

This poem, The Acorn and I, reminds me of when we were kids and my brother finding out the difference between maple trees and oak trees. He had tapped, or tried to, a dozen oak trees for sap. Okay, it was me.

How do you get an elephant up an oak tree?

Set him on an acorn and wait twenty years.
