Hello Terry,
You've brought up an interesting point that I've thought about quite a bit myself lately. Not for me. My wife and two of my daughters live nearby, and my neighbors across the street stays in touch pretty well. I worry about some of my friends on FS and another friend that lives back in the boonies in Vermont. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Well structured and composed. Most times the coroner is not interested in ascertaining the true cause of death. I know this for a fact. Death is hard, it brings grief and loss. Thankyou for sharing.

So, it's four, well structured and composed. How would you suggest I improve it?

It may be fiction, but it still tears at my heart, Terry. Knock that off. Just kidding. But seriously, the line, "No one seems to care," tore at my heartstrings.
Thanks for sharing, best wishes in the contest, and may your New Year be filled with joy and laughter!

You are always giving people tips for survival. You are very kind. I'm sure some people here could use your help. I hear quite a few are living alone like Lisa May in New Zealand.

Excellent.

I've often wondered about the same thing. I'm getting up there, or will be soon enough, have enough health issues so that I could easily fall and hurt myself, but nobody would think to check on me. Probably not even the neighbors. I've lived here for just a year, and we don't really know each other. I do have family about 15-20 minutes away, which is why I moved to the area. I did get some land that's much closer but ended up buying as it would have taken until next year to even find a builder. Everyone was booked from the pandemic for at least 18 months. So, I bought a house... but it's still not MY house. You know what I mean, Terry?
Still, I have wondered who will be there for me? My son seems to want to work in RI... though he likes it here... he seems to have more opportunity there at the moment. So, I have to be okay with visits I suppose... until I can drag his butt northward! :)
No worries, Terry... I have an extra room; you can always come here and keep me entertained!
Susan :)

This is a very nice fictional story that fits neatly and cleanly in our fictional box. Real life is, however, very similar, many times. Having worked for years, In Hospice, many deaths, are not that complicated and often they are unaccompanied by family. When their time comes, they're going to go.

Thanks for sharing. Embrace the Love from Above.

I'm not sure that any way is a good way to die. Maybe surrounded by loved ones is preferred.

Shark, bear, alligator attack would probably be the worse. I guess we could say eaten by anything.

The worst part of living . . . dying.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Terry,

this brought back a lot of memories for me. Back in 2015, I worked looking after the elderly in their homes for a while and I found one of my clients having passed away when I did a morning visit. We would regularly find the guys having fallen out of bed or in some form of distress. It's a sad fact but one that occurs much too often.

forgot to take his pills, or took too many pills." - personally I'd omit the last use of pills here. It's not necessary.

All the best
G

This story is sadly realistic. The pace is good. The language is conversational. There are no bumps in the flow. The real trauma in the event is for the people who found him.

Thanks for sharing.

A well-written story, Terry, with dialogue carrying most of the plot. It is possible for someone to die of a broken heart. My grandmother did. You're so right about a death going unnoticed for days. My BFF calls me once or twice every day. If I don't answer he contacts the manager of these apartments to check it out.
