Hi Laurie,
This well written sonnet reminds us to enjoy the beauty of Fall colors and comfortable temperatures and let Winter cold not worry us. It will come when it comes. There is a lot of fun you can have in Autumn,
Keep writing and stay healthy
Congrats on placing third in the contest

Hey! I've been sick and didn't even know I placed! Thanks for your review and for telling me, Joan. I appreciate it.

Great poem for the contest. I love the way you used our fear of a coming winter as a metaphor for our fears about the winters of our life. You wisely point out that these fears rob us of joys and the wonders around us. A lovely philosophical post.

Such a lovely sonnet. This should do well in the contest, I think. I love the phrase "we pluck the pear." The short staccato words and the alliteration is what makes it special.

As usual, a great job! Now are you going to convert this to free verse?

Thank you, Jill! And yes, this is one of the sonnets going into my chapbook. Glutton for punishment.

Thank you for sharing your poem about October. It is, typically, a less loved season opener, but those who like Halloween, Homecoming, and bi-polar weather, tend to like it.

I love the way you chose the sonnet as a vehicle to express your feelings about the month. It was interesting and enjoyable.

Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you, Rhonda! Yes, the contest was for sonnets, so that's what I had to stick to. I like working inside all those restrictions, though, so I was fine with that! I appreciate your review!

What a stunning image!! And you are right. It is a time to cherish the glory of the colours of Autumn, and rejoice in the beauty. Where I live we don't have many deciduous trees, and our winters are mild, no snow - but I can still relate to your feelings, so beautifully expressed. A lovely poem indeed.

Beautiful images of fall...Of sweet pears and bonfires.
-A very lyrical poem with beautiful references.
There is a warmth in October. Every moment has its worth.
A very special poem.

This sonnet reminds us that October is that mid-season month when many think ahead to Winter's cold instead of enjoying the bounties of Fall.
Your meter is flawless and you've chosen good rhymes.
I enjoyed this Nature poem very much.

Hello Laurie,
I'm afraid that I fit the category of complaining of winter's long stay. Here in Alaska the trees are bare and have been for several weeks and will remain so until late April or so. The snow on the mountains is beautiful, but it's also a reminder that it won't be long before we're dealing with it in the valley. I suppose if I wanted it to be summer all year long I could move south, but then I'd complain about the heat and bugs and snakes, so I guess I'll stay where I am. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Thanks, Tom! We had the pleasure of visiting Alaska a few years ago, in July, and it was absolutely stunning. The people we met up there all said pretty much the same thing you did; they think the cold lasts too long, but there are way too many benefits to the rest of the year for them to consider leaving. I love your state.

Such beautiful sentiments about that time of year that is now approaching i.e the onset of wintry days and the cold and 'darker times'-so well documented - really seizes the sentiment

Laurie,

Such a multi-talented author! So skilled at prose and then just as talented at poetry!

I adore the message here - right after that GORGEOUS image. We do tend to brush right past the beauty in life that's happening right NOW - to fret about something that hasn't happened and certainly may not be as bad as we fear. Our own worst enemies!

We must learn to BREATHE and enjoy the moment!

Thanks and good luck!
