Hi John,
I have to ask, are Spag and Hetti regular characters of yours? If they aren't they should be... they're adorable. I really enjoyed reading them. They made me smile all the way through with their antics and their naiveté. I knew they were going to end up with an empty wheelbarrow as soon as they gave up the first bit to Snake, I didn't see the end coming though. That turn was a sweet surprise! Nicely done! :) Susan

Are you inferring the characters in this piece were and therefore are your children. Whether or not, that's fine, I liked your imagination. Well done. ..........................................

Well, I have called them my little rug rats before, But No, my wife didn't give birth to rats, Tom, unless I missed something. Hahahaha! Thank you for the read and review, Tom.

This is a clever way to let the reader know about the character:
"How do humans expect a growing sewer rat to live on only turnips and tomatoes?" This is clever: "But, nothing, Hetti--we're going to eat everything in this wagon, and no one will know." This is Karma for sure: "With that, she placed a big bowl of turnips and tomatoes in the middle of the table." This was fun.

This was absolutely delightful! It's a take on a fable that manages to be cute and sage at the same time. I loved your cast of characters and the grudging acceptance at the end. Beautifully written, my friend :-).

Thank you, Mike. I'm happy you enjoyed it, and your comments mean much. Thanks for validating the ending. I wasn't sure about it when I first penned it, but then it grew on me. Thanks for reading, Mike. Children's stories are a little more reluctant to read for some.

If this is a children's type of book, and it was similar years ago, you should think about publishing it. I am not really fond of sewer rats so I would find another kind of creature....tho...

I kept waiting for the "spaghetti" joke but it never came. But this reads like a typical children's story with repeated fails and finally a moral to be content with what you have.

Ha! Thank you, Helen! When I looked those two greetings up, I wasn't sure which ones to use as I don't speak French or Spanish, and my Italian has a bit to be desired. I thank you for the help. Now, everyone will think I'm bilingual. Hahaha. Thanks for the great review and comments.

A wonderful story for your children, and I'm sure they developed great imaginations as well. It's very imaginative and even the names are very clever. Well done. Are you a published children's author? You should be ....,

Wendy, thank you so much for the great review and kind words. Unfortunately, I'm not published, but thank you for saying you think I should be. That means much.

Oh it's so cool that this was your children's story. I like the play on dividing spaghetti and giving the rays their names. It's sad and comical that they got played and outsmarted by the "helpful" animals. Fun read. Gretchen

I've said it before, John, so let me say it again ... G' thee to a publisher pronto with this one, Sir. I mean it. I can't imagine a child who wouldn't fall in love with Hetti and Spag. I should have been reading books like this one myself and I would have burrowed into literature years earlier. Your children were indeed lucky to have the treasure of your imagination to play around with, daily. Now, go! Look for a stamp or two.

Jay, thank you so much for your encouragement. I'm not sure if being published is my goal. Of Course, I'd come across as solitariness to say that wouldn't be the pinnacle of my life, but I've always hated the business end of things, and my pleasure rests in writing, to be honest. Although, my kids are saying the same. Jay, I appreciate you so much and will look up to you always as one of my unforgettable favorites. Thank you for the SIX!

This is a delightful children's story that I envisioned as a Saturday morning cartoon. The story has a theme. Each character is colorful and has a separate personality. Their dialogue is realistic and humorous. Well done.
