Every day is a new beginning indeed, and a reason to be humble and grateful.
I loved your poem - the topic resonates with me -- I HATE waking up to an alarm clock, but yes, there is reason to give thanks for each new day of life we are granted, and for every opportunity we have to start anew.

You're so right. Very often I think how lucky I am to be here when my little sister died four years ago. So unfair.
Thanks so much for reading.

I think you have done a great job with your take on this poem Heather. One more day is always a gift, and for me, the gift of free verse is letting your words flow freely. I think you've achieved that, and good luck with your book.
cheers,
valda

It's always good to hear from you.

This is so true. Opening those drapes and seeing the sun, even though it is going through changes. Man has put too many chemicals, pollution--etc into the atmosphere. Now we are paying the dire circumstances and cost. Our bodies can not continue to take the aftermath. I pray man wakes up. Thank you for sharing.

I hope so too. I don't understand how there are still people out there who don't believe in climate change.
Thanks so much for reading.

You are welcome.

Thankfully my alarm rarely sounds these days but I remember a time when I also cursed it as I never wanted to get up early, but once we do and the day starts we have no regrets, I could identify with your words Heather, love Dolly x

I think most of us can. I used to be a morning person, but I now stay up quite late and find it difficult to wake up early.
I'm trying to adapt to a healthier timetable. Today is an exception as I had a very long nap.
Thanks for reading. xx

Hi Heather,
his poem iterates what a lot of people feel when they first wake up. I think it is why someone invented the snooze button on alarm clocks.
I am a natural early riser. You are right that each day is a gift and this poem shows the hope in every new day.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Hi Joan,
I prefer traditional alarm clocks, but some time ago I started using my phone.
Now I put it on the chest of drawers opposite my bed to have to get up whether I want to or not.
My alarm tone is always a song I love, so sometimes I stay in bed till the song finishes because I don't want my neighbours to complain so I listen only once (I'm into metal).
Thanks for reading.

You're welcome, Heather. That's thoughtful of you,
I don't use an alarm clock now and haven't since my first week in high school. Since then I have been a natural early riser.

Wow! Lucky you. I'm not an early riser any more. I get up at 8:00 or 9:00, but that's not too late over here.
My youngest son has to get up at 6:00 to go to uni this year and he's finding it difficult to adapt to the new timetable.

-Thanks for sharing the image, notes, and poem, Heather.
-I enjoyed reading it.
-Effective imagery paints a vivid word picture of your morning.
-The opening lines make a very good beginning.
-I can relate to the second verse because I don't like just getting up and getting started in the morning. There is a sense of peace about that.
-A very good concluding verse, as well.

You are very welcome, Heather, and It is nice to see you, too. I think you joined a while back if I remember right.

Yes, I was away for two years, because I didn't have enough time. I was doing a Creative Writing MA at Middlesex University in London.
Now kind of regret it because it was too expensive and, besides I've realized I'm not made for the academic world. All the same, I didn't get a very bad mark (Second Degree Honours), but as I'm a swot according to my daughter I aimed for Distinction.
I'm glad to be back here (less pressure , lovely community) because some of my Professors were lovely, but there were others who crushed my self-confidence.
The best thing about the MA was meeting a Croatian girl I still keep in touch with.
It's good to be back.
Hugs,
MJ

Thanks for sharing everything, MJ. I can understand about some professors crushing spirits. I think some have the philosophy of "my way or the highway!" Nice to have you back, too.

Wow, Heather, this is an excellent poem!
I love the picture of the woman looking out to the new day. The font size and the spacing are superb. And the message of a gift of every new day is one I can relate to.
Thanks for sharing your new chapter of poetry! You are definitely a budding poet!

I'm trying, Jesse. I don't think I'll ever be able to write rhyming poetry. Till now, I'd always thought prose was my niche and it probably is, but it's nice to try different things.
Thanks for your kind review.
-
You have a knack for writing free verse and that is difficult for a lot of poets.
Keep trying, my friend!

You're right. Practice makes perfect.

Yes, it does.

I love Amanda's poems! Yay! Your poem expresses exactly how I feel in the mornings. Exactly. I am not a morning poem and I feel like I have been ran over by a huge truck everytime I wake up. But then I take a moment to greet the day and I am grateful again to be alive. Wonderful poem!

I'm glad you liked this. I love Amanda too. Her poetry and her personality. And she's so young!
You're going to find this silly, but I often think it's more difficult to write something interesting when you are a middle-class white woman. I very often wish I was African American because I love their art, their culture, their fight.Of course, they usually have a lot more problems unless they have a lot of money...
I'll just have to be more creative.
Thanks for reading.

Well done on this verse, Maria. I really enjoyed your choice to write your own version of a poem that means something to you. Great job and great selection.

Hello Linda,
I don't have much time either and when I don't write I feel like something is missing.
Now, however, I'm on sick leave so I can take advantage of this free time. x
-
I'm so sorry your on sick leave...
I will put you in my prayers...
I keep saying I'm going to slow down...
but I can't say no to people who need me...
sigh...but as I get older...I know I need to slow down...or just take a rest...
please take care of yourself...God Bless...love xxoo 🙏🌼💖😊🌹

Thanks so much, Linda. I think we all need to slow down, but it's difficult to learn to say no.
Hugs,
MJ
