Hi Melissa,
These words and the artwork shows the danger of getting addicted to smart phones. Teens aren't the only ones who do that. It is sad that this little girl is being ignored because of technology. If they need to use their phones so badly, they should find ways to use it with their child in a way to use imaginations or find things to do together.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Hello Joan. Thank you... it is a problem that grieves my heart and is causing problems in so many young families.

I love that you used your eight syllables to address a serious problem. Your post is the perfect example of the concept that less is more.
I feel for the little girl in the photo. Dinner with the family is not dinner with the family at all. She might as well eat by herself.
Well done.

Wow!
Sad, but so often the case in all social situations in our modern world.
A perfect pairing of word and image to showcase a problem which creates social isolation and so much more.
Blessings

Hello Sugarray77, yes, children do feel isolated when their parents have more time for their cell phone than their children. People today are having a difficult time in just being/living in the moment and making small talk as well. Social graces seem to be a thing of the past. Looking at one's hand is more desired than looking at your loved one's face(s). Good 2-4-2 format. A timely poem. Well chosen photo. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

I see this every day in SO many of my voice, flute and piano families' homes. And one time I gaped, while in Starbucks, when I saw an entire long table of teens sitting today, all texting away on their phones!
So, go you with this entry. You spoke volumes eight syllables.

In only four words, you've captured the mood and created a work of social commentary. The photo melds perfectly with your poem. Very nicely done. Good luck in the contest. I think you have a contender here.

Thank you very much, Charles. I feel strongly that we need to remind folks to put down their phones and talk to their kids. :). Thanks again.

You have touched on a very important subject, Melissa. The cell phone has caused more harm than good. I yearn for the good old days. I have a cell phone, but I don't know how to use most of the features.

Seems to meet the criteria but how can a reviewer write 150 characters about eight syllables. Silly in my opine. .......................................................................

Everyone uses a cell phone, Melissa. It's like an extension of one's body and it is true that people are on the phone more than they should be. Adults cannot do without one and kids are glued to the screen playing. We are forgetting to talk face-to-face. This is a good entry for the 2-4-2 Poetry Contest. Thank you for sharing.
