I love how you think and speak. "A man who does not hide behind lies, discloses truth with his every word." - Nolan Miller.

powerful mediation on immigration and the feeling of being an immigrant never quite fitting in because one is different culture, speak a different language

Thank you for your fine review thoughts. As a person of color I sometimes feel that intimidation when entering a predominantly white establishment. But that is primarily on me.

Not to go political, but dang, if their own governments cannot see the need how in the world can a nation who has their own homeless, addicted, and elderly expect to welcome migrants with open arms, endlessly?

It is a complicated situation. A poor family living next door to a family who seems to have a higher standard of living will cause the kids from the poorer family to want to become members of the other family. It is just human nature.

The truth is you aren't a 100% Native American our DNA would show all of decended from immigrants. If those Native Americans had been outgunned and exploited, none of us would be here. America hasn't always been fair the way we deal with other and it still isn't. I agree with you right up to the point where you imply asking for an ID card is too much. I do think we need to know who they are. Ever since Ellis Island was established, we've had them identify themselves.

True but, if it is based simply on appearance and or accent, it gets a little sketchy. There are people who have lived here legally who have never learned to speak English as well as some who learned it in a foreign country.

Yes, I couldn't agree with you more. The unfair practices of people who are already citizens are dubious at best. I too sympathize with the immigrants who come here to be free.
Your written poem speaks the truth.
Thanks for telling it like it is!

I am glad you took on this hard problem we face, all of us.

First of all, I like the way you begin your poem with a twist on the lyrics of our national anthem.

The Statue has always welcomed those from another place, yet they have always been vilified. We are a divided nation and have always been so.

It sounds as though you speak from a place of knowing, and your poem speaks to the hypocrisy and racism that exists for those "huddled masses."

Congratulations on 300 posts! That's amazing in itself.

Thank you, your kind words warm my heart. Especially in te face of some of the denials I have received.

As we both stated, we're a nation in denial:-(

I can hear the rap rhythms of someone reading this aloud as is the case in much of your poetry. This is a real cry from the heart for those suffering from discrimination on entering a new country.

Thank you James. I can imagine that there might a bit of the same in your land as well.

A well written milestone post. Congratulations. A country which shows humane acceptance of refugees fulfils the Biblical requirement to look after the foreigner, the vulnerable and the needy. People need to realise that all are immigrants unless they are the original Native Americans. Compassion to fellow human beings should be the priority, not grasping selfishly for wealth and riches.

Sadly your two main political parties have never managed to successfully address the increasingly difficult problem of immigration. I know in my heart that Donald Trump's 'be tough at all costs' policy was wrong, but it is certainly almost impossible to impose a more humane way without encouraging a huge number to attempt to enter the country illegally.

I appreciate the use of quotes or near-quotes here to touch upon this theme. There is also interest in your use of internal rhyme in a number of lines.

Thank you Steve. I am well aware that we cannot simply open the border and simply, "Everybody, come on in." That would be foolish. I am simply saying that for those who are here, they deserve a little more compassionate treatment. I live in a city that at one time had a Mexican mayor who loved to ride around in his older pickup truck, he was stopped and when the officer realized his mistake, boy was he embarrassed. Especially since the stop was based on the mayors appearance, and not on a traffic violation.

Unless we are Native American we were all immigrants here. Guess some forget that when they move on a generation or two.

Congratulations on Milestone 300.

You addressed an important topic.

Thank you. You would never guess what the inspiration was. I like to play around with popular sayings. The first five words of the poem came as a result of my playing around with the words, the poem came after my sayin it a few times.

Ah, the muse works in mysterious ways....

I did note it was a mash-up of the first words to our National Anthem...
