Hi Heather, when reading
this superb poem it represents to me that people need to count their blessings.
Some people want more and
more. I love the color yellow
too, it's so cheerful. I think
you write quite well.
Happy Monday & blessings!

I have known people like this man that never seem to think they are in their happy place, I think I did too in earlier yeaars before realising that's where I was. Enjoyed this, and the happy ending. Cheers

I really enjoyed reading this piece, Maria. The free form was exactly the right format to use with this one. I like it that you shared a bit about yourself... yellow is an all-time favorite of mine too... but, my fave is pink. Your deeper points resonated with me too :). Well done.

Thanks, Melissa. It's good to know other people can relate to what we write.
I also love pink and lilac. It seems we are girly girls. Although I very often wear black clothes...

This was rather beautiful, Heather. With the inclusion of the wonderful picture and the fantastic Alan Jackson video, I definitely would consider this as one of the most beautiful poems of all. Your words were distinctly clear and all he really had to do was open his eyes wide and smile. Very well done, greatly enjoyed. Blessings n Hugs!

Can I ask you a question? Have you ever read Joy Harko? Do you like her poems?
I hadn't heard about her till recently even though she's poet laureate.Blush.
reply by aryr on 06-Oct-2022
You can always ask, Heather. No, I have not heard of or read anything from Joy Harko, but I will look into this.

Sorry, I made a mistake before. She's called Joy Harjo. x

Nope, haven't heard of her, either, Heather.

We never know what we have until it has gone and if only we could appreciate our life and stop moaning about it, there is some realisation in these words and contentment comes from within with an inner peace we find in being satisfied with life, much enjoyed Heather, love Dolly x

You're so right, Dolly. I hope I'll find that contentment one day. I mostly do, but not when I'm too stressed at work or sad for some reason.
    Hugs.

Interesting poem, Heather. It is somewhat sad but hopeful for finding happiness within us. It is very well written and, as I said, interesting. I am familiar with the song you are sharing, as well. Best of luck in the contest. Evi

    Thanks for reading, Evi.
I don't know why, but most of the things I write are sad, unless it's a children's story.

That's a great realization and the younger we are when we can come to that conclusion, the better for the rest of life. Usually, there's still a lot of internal turmoil in one's 40-something years. That is usually a time of midlife crisis through the 50s. But sometime later, there is a sense of self acceptance and contentment as you described in this poem.
Best wishes in the contest!

I'm still waiting for the self-acceptance and contentment and I turned 58 some days ago. :)
Thanks for reading and for your comment, Helen.

This verse has a clear message, nicely expressed. Nice imagery in your choice of language. The graphic also worked nicely for this reader. I hope you continue writing for poet's glory.

Thanks so much, Julie. I'm fighting with the advanced editor right now because this time around I cannot change the font. It's only happened once before.
    Have a nice day, evening?

Actually this was me before God intervened in my life, He was the missing link that drew the other things together. That's my story and my song, this is beautifully written Heather, look at successful, famous people with riches, they take drugs and, or suicide, beautifully written, blessings Roy
