Shubert
A silly poem about a seal I heard about on the AM News28 total reviews

Love the alliterations in this story of a slippery seal named Shubert. It's funny how listening to a story such as this can inspire a fun poem that slips along as easily as its subject.
Nicely done:-)

Thank you. It was fun writing. In a time where there is so much going on to frighten us into a cellar to hide away. We need to find a laugh anywhere one presents itself.

Neat little poem based on the news story. You even got a lttle alliteration in by naming him Shubert. I would imagine any form of wildlife would attempt an escape if given the opportunity. They aren't designed to abide by the rules we make.

I am made to wonder just how hard would the average human try to gain his freedom if put into a cage, not a jail or prison with guards.
-
I think I make the effort. Wouldn't you?

Nolan,
I love this light, sweet poem about a seal. I like your rhyme. The photo is great.
I hope you stay well in Covid season, Nolan! Keep writing.
Ps. I saw many seals and seals when I lived near Monterrey Bay, California. They're cute, but noisy.
Please stay in touch, friend.

-Thanks for sharing the picture, notes, and poem, nomi.
-Animals are clever creatures and sometimes add a little fun to our lives.
-You wrote a good poem about it.
-Effective imagery, rhyme, and alliteration.
-I also like the internal rhymes.
-It all adds to the playful nature of the poem and the seal.
-I like the name, too, I assume you gave him that to go
along with "the slippery seal...."
-I enjoyed reading it; we need poems like this once in a while, too!

Thank you. The poem was based on an actual seal whose name is Shubert, I'm not sure about the spelling, but according to the news report that was how his name was pronounced.

You are welcome, and thanks for sharing about the name.

I'm betting he'll figure out another way to escape. I'm glad you posted this because I hadn't heard this, and I enjoyed hearing about this exceptional sea lion. Animals are smarter than they're credited with.

Thank you. I was on my way to going back to sleep, but the news report woke me up and I stayed up to hear the complete report. The poem followed soon after.

I enjoyed your little poem, Nomi. The picture was perfect.
I liked the internal rhyme and end rhyme. Your words sounded
just like what a sassy seal lion would say. Thanks for the notes, too.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you. I am so pleased at the reception this poem has received. I only decided at the last moment to write and post it today while it was still fresh in my mind.

I'm truly a late comer to American history. We are still living in an era in which, some of us, although guaranteed their constitutional rights, like the seal, have to contrive an escape route for their true freedom.

You would be surprised at some of the contrivances that enslaved Africans went to in order to gain their freedom. Any of them that were captured were not treated nearly as humane as Shubert was.

I believe they are supposed to be very intelligent creatures and so well adapted to their habitat. It seams you can never be certain when you are likely to run into them. They look like old gentlemen taking a swim when the pop their heads up out of the water.

True. I was impressed with the pains he took to get away for a little excursion, and the aplomb he showed when he was intercepted by the authorities.

Shubert was quite a attraction in my local news and the town of Beverly. Apparently this was the second time he found himself in the wrong place. He gave himself up when he walked into the police station.
I enjoyed this fun poem about Shubert.
Best wishes

Thank you Mary. I think that a visit from a non threatening animal is always welcome. I daresay if it had been a bear or mountain lion, there would have been a lot more excitement around the visit.

I did enjoy reading this cute poem. I happen to be a fan of seals. I find them adorable. Every time we go aquariums, I make my husband take me to the seal shows. LOL While visiting LA a few years back we took a boat tour and there were seals having a great time. Thank you for sharing.
