This was so hopeful. I love how you described true love. And there is no truer love than what God has done for mam. To sacrifice his beloved son for mankind who doesn't deserve it. But I guess in His opinion we do. This was lovely, Roy. Gretchen

I read the verse at my Dad's funeral. Without love we are nothing. Thanks for sharing this poem, I enjoyed it. I wrote a poem called 'Mad World' (which it is) but we know the End of Days is coming and the Lord will gather his sheep. We are His children. Jesus said, "be not afraid, for I am with you always." Blessings, K xx

This powerful poem does an excellent job of describing what love is--and is not, expecially the ultimate love of the Lord. Line 3 really speaks to me about the strength--yet the gentleness--of love. (I'll never know nor
understood~~suggested: I never knew nor understood)

Roy at his best, a spiritual wordsmith hammering out and forming an ode to the Master to whom so much is owed! Beautiful work, dear brother in Christ! Dennis

Hi Roy,
This reminds us there is earthly love and eternal love. We need to be thankful for both and work on both. I like the rhymes that tell us of the sacrifice for eternal love we look for at a earthly end.
In the third stanza, I think know should be knew, because all the other verbs are in past tense.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Hello, Roy, I love 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. It encompasses the meaning of true love well. When I feel God's love it makes me cry .. it's so moving and encompassing. Your poem is wonderful and the presentation is beatiful too.

Ah, Roy. At first, I wondered why you'd feature the phantom (of the opera?) ~ and then I understood it is because he did NOT possess the qualities of love, but of obsessive possessiveness and control.
At the two Battered Women's shelters where I volunteer we so often hear these broken and beaten women say they MUST go back to their spouse because "He loves me."
No. Love, according to 1 Corinthians 13 4-7 says it all and you build upon that in your stellar poem.
Sister Mary, who runs one of the shelters has that very passage written in calligraphy and frames upon the wall. She often quietly nods to it, in answer to the woman's insistence that the batterer is loving...
Too often, they leave and return to their abuser. When they do, we pray for them.

Once again you point out the teachings of Christ and the wisdom that can be found in the Bible. That love never harms or is ever wrong is a message we need to shout to others. God's sacrifice of his son is living (no pun intended) evidence of the power of this emotion.

I think the choice to pair a poem about true and gentle love with an image of the phantom of phantom of the opera was a very interesting one as most would consider him very obsessive rather than loving.

There is no finer emotion than that of love. It feels good to be loved and it feels good to give love. It's the one emotion everyone would love to have, yet some seem incapable of receiving or giving it. Sometimes love can evoke sadness, but that comes with love, you can't have one without the other. When we lose a loved one, we grieve. I enjoyed reading your poem, and reading your author's notes, but show the wisdom you possess, my friend. Love and hugs, Sandra xx
