There are several people who have foster children. Did you experience that type of home ever? I have not read your future chapters yet. I think I have five to go after this one. I'm hoping your street life is not involving lots of bad experiences.

Those are daunting facts you presented. I tried fostering a couple of 16 year old cousins several years ago that had a tough life. Dad's in prison and mom's both into drugs. I have to admit I couldn't handle them. We tried, but they weren't satisfied with anything and they had nothing. That experience kept me from ever trying again. It's hard on both sides of the fence, and I don't think there is an easy answer. You did a great job. have a blessed day. Shirley

As usual, this is another heart-wrenching chapter, Brett. I can imagine why older children are often not considered in adoption, because too often their informative years have left them deeply scared and angry. No everyone knows how to handle that. But being adopted as an infant doesn't guarantee an easy transition either. My adopted grandson is a prime example.
I look forward to learning how you managed to survive and come out a successful man on the other side.
One little spag: "son Ryan came in(into) the room"

Well written. I expect had I read some of the preceding chapters, I'd have a deeper understanding of our lead character (you?) that would allow me to enjoy this piece even further. I think the story could be enriched by adding some dialog and perhaps you've done that in prior chapters. The voice of the narrator needs to be broken up now and again to create pace and add interest.

I find your story very painful and tormenting for an older adoptee. It must have been very sad and difficult for you during those times. I'm looking forward to your future writings on the subject.

It's never easy in life to be unloved, but if nothing else, it makes us tougher . . . at least on the outside. But sadly, a broken heart never truly mends. Thanks for sharing.

Your comparison of unwanted children with unwanted dogs is a powerful one, and was very moving. Neither children nor dogs should feel rejected, unwanted and unloved. The statistics you shared are both sad and alarming.

Well done, mate. Thanks for the statistics and background. My Dad left us when I was 8. I thank God my dear Mum battled to bring me and my elder brother up alone. You will have read about dad threatening her if she took him to court for support. (He provided none!)No such thing as Single Mother's pensions in them days.

Hello Brett,
Thanks for sharing this post. It's tragic that in this country there are so many young people waiting for adoption that will probably never come. I believe it takes a special person to want to welcome a stranger into their family, regardless of their age. My heart breaks for those left behind, I can only imagine the thoughts that must go through their heads, feeling unloved or unworthy. How many people have had to start life without the benefit of a family? I'm so sorry for all those whose lot in life has been so unfortunate. I appreciate you writing about this issue.
Have a blessed evening.

Oh Boy, Twelve years old and already heading for trouble. It is a sad fact that too many children are left needing a home and someone to care for them. Children can be mean to each other and I cannot imagine what it is like to be stuck with a bunch of mean spirited kids as my siblings. Ugh! Thanks for sharing. Nancy:)
