Deb,

NICE! Though I can't relate at all. HA!

Like you said, I'm sure most everyone here can see and feel everything you're describing.

Although I loved all of this - I have grabbed just a few lines to post to my profile page today as my 'writing quote of the day'. You better be okay with that... YIKES! If not, let me know! The following pieces are the ones I stole. YAY!

***

I feel the peace of inspiration flow.
Like a gentle breeze
rustling through the top leaves
of ancient oaks,
thoughts begin to whisper,
meandering into shape and substance.
Life begins to flow from my fingertips and,
for a few moments,
I know the power of creation.

***

A great description of the writing process! Deeee-lightful! Thanks a bunch!

I'm so honored, Robyn! And, for a change, I'm not being tongue-in-cheek or sarcastic at all. Thank you. :)
This is entered in a contest on another website. It could sure use some reads. If you have a minute, would you pop over to it? You don't even have to read it again. lol. It will help if it's chosen in the final few.

Thanks and blessings. You made my day!

    Looks good - except for:
--> I am comfortable in the knowledge of both worlds -
    the one (that) I inhabit

    --> and the other ones...
    those that live within me(.)

    Good luck!

You've described well the freedom that comes when we are able to write the words that unlock the emotions within us. Interesting picture to accompany your words. Best wishes in the contest.

Crazy pic, right?! I entered 'woman at a computer, Pablo Picasso abstract style' in an art AI program. I thought it was a great image since there are so many worlds that those of us who write inhabit. :)
    Glad you enjoyed the poem.

I can't write good free verse, but I know it when I see it. This is an exceptional poem--vividly descriptive and expressive of how poets are moved to write and the peace the experience engenders. Excellent figures of speech

Not sure if you intended this to be the case, but I read the text slower when spaced out and faster when clumped together.

Sounds like a writer to me, and you free verse is very well thought out and written.

I especially liked your last stanza - I can relate, as I know others will also.

    Hi Pam ~
Nope, that was an editor thing. lol. I wasn't sure if you thought it 'worked' or not. But I do appreciate your kind words and am glad that the poem resonated with you.

This is a good free verse poem. The text is large and easy to read. The message of the poem is clearly stated and easy to understand. The spacing is a bit off throughout the piece. You may want to try adjusting it. The visual fits okay. I think you could find a better one. Good luck in the contest.

If we can summon mountains when we speak, then surely the written can lay the foundations for the power of the spoken, the pen produces creativity, and the mouth speaks it into existence, well done Deb, blessings Roy

Thank you! I think our words, written or spoken, are far more powerful than we realize. Best to be careful with them!

Absolutely, Deborah. I thought for a short moment I'd lost it, and I've felt at a loss. But today it suddenly came back to me, thank God. I've been writing.all afternoon.
Good luck with this little gem. Ulla:)))

I think sometimes our muse may take a short vacation, but they never leave. I read an interview with an author who'd written spicy romance for a number of years and been quite successful. She became a Christian and was no longer comfortable writing in that genre. She stopped writing for three years - not a word would come to her. She purchased the copyrights for the old novels back and suddenly found herself at the forefront of a new genre - Christian romance. She said it was like God turned on a faucet for her. I think that happens to us all at times.
Glad you're back! I'll be reading some of your work soon.

Thank you for sharing about the comfort you find in the act of creation! Loved so many things in this poem like:
"allowing characters to live and act
according to their whims and wills
as they speak through me.
A parade of letters on the screen,
marching on their own,"
You're right that our words and the worlds created by them take a life of their own. Best wishes in the contest!
