A fascinating account of a legendary and talented woman! I remember her albums playing long and at full volume around our home, as a child ~ and well after. My mom got to see her show on Broadway and considered it one of the highlights of her life.
In a benefit of star-studded celebrities, I've no doubt she was the esteemed star ~ to know this was a benefit for the AHA, and specifically organized to bring to the forefront the statistics that Blacks were proportionately at highest risk for heart disease makes this a triumph!

You have certainly led a note worthy life one that I envy. To be clear, I am not jealous, but I would certainly like to have enjoyed some of the things you have experienced. I have an interesting story to tell. I was shocked to find that a longtime acquaintance was actually named after Lena Horne. Her name is Mary Lena Calhoun. This is Lena Horne's actual birth name. I never knew. Yes she was named after Miss Horne.
