You've described a meaningful and memorable event. I loved Lena Horne's voice and as a teen, tried to sing and sound like her. I never made it, but it did make me sing better. I would have given anything to attend one of her concerts. As Executive Director of the American Heart Association in Dallas, you classified yourself and Zoe as ordinary people. Ha! I don't think so. You did not sing or act, but you headed the organization the audience came to support. Great story.

Thank you for the very kind review. Lena Horne was a delightful lady and a great performer. I was not the one to take any bows for this event, but there were a lot of great folks who should. Terry.

This line will immediately draw the reader in: "What was unique for the city of Dallas were the organizers of the event and who attended." You've really got the reader now: "Let me tell you a bit about their success." You are adept at using 'hook' lines'. Your allusion to familiar names of people, tv programs and companies seals this. Wonderful job, well reported.

I loved her saying "That's the money song." That makes her human, within our reach.

"My Charlie stayed awake the whole time..." This sounds like something my wife might say about me if it was a fantastic entertainment evening.

You were very fortunate to be so closely involved with one of America's treasures Terry. How fun.

Great article about an obviously even greater evening.

Ok, I gotta believe you. I just didn't see that spelling come up in any search. But the one I did find was a black civic activist, so I just thought ...

I understand. I had to check it a couple of times myself, but it is in the program, and he sent a letter with his name. He worked for US Justice Department. Terry.

Well, you should know, you were there, you have the program. Computers certainly do not know everything all the time.

Lena Horne, She was my favorite Blues singer. I always loved Mo-Town music and my childhood girlfriend and I would listen to it on the radio when we would spend the night to gether on a sleepover. This was great. Thanks for sharing. Nancy:).

An Evening with Lena Horne is an interesting, well-written story of an event to benefit the American Heart Association in Dallas in 1980. From behind-the-scenes planning to the actual events of that evening, we hear details of celebrities, raised awareness, and finally, a performance by Lena Horne.

OMG, OMG!!! Terry this is a wonderful richly detailed account of an enviable evening. Oh, how I wish I could have attended. You and Zoe along with 888 others were all lucky ducks. I am glad your font size was large because this is a story I for sure wanted to read. I wish we could just all get along and realize our common connections. We all love great music and great sports figures regardless of race. Once again you have written a great story over a memorable event.

Thank you especially for the notes. They made me go back and read a second time. I enjoyed this very much, except this putting yourself down as an ordinary person. You have led a most interesting life, and were at that point Executive Director of the American Heart Association in Dallas. If you hadn't been there it would have been a sorry reflection on life. What a lovely story about the perfect evening you and Zoe had. It was made even lovelier by the fact there was an equal amount of both black and white people in the audience, and that Lena Horne sang for an hour and a half. How wonderful!! Do you know how much money was raised that night? I'm sure the AHA did well from it. Well done, I really enjoyed this. Warm hugs, Sandra xx

A fine story and it sounds like a wonderfully successful evening. The thought and planning and good will was exceptional. It was well written - my only comment was that I noted "enchanted" was used twice in close proximity in the fifth last stanza, if you want to think about an alternative expression for one of them. Thanks for sharing.

This is a wonderful story about another famous person you met. The two men who set this up are a class act with what they chose to do. It sounds like a wonderful night for you and Zoe and the Heart Fund.
