Thank you for sharing these questions with us. My husband, Brian and I were having a discussion about Paul over dinner the other night. It seems the church we've attending for 16 years have turned away from Paul's teachings. We feel it's not a good thing.

Time to look for a new church, which I understand is difficult and many will not understand. But we are called to honor the truth as it is in Jesus.

I do know Luther was amazed at Ephesians 2:8-9, being a catholic monk and a theologian, and praise God, an honest one, grace was an amazing, although it cost Jan Huus, his life. Hello Dennis,
You've posed some thought provoking questions. I don't have time to look into them right now, but hopefully I will later. Of all the people in the bible, I've especially appreciated Paul. He was willing to suffer for the gospel and his knowledge prior to becoming a Christian served him well.

1 - Of course, Jesus called Saul (Paul) to "carry Jesus' name before the Gentiles". Ananias of Damascus had a strong hand in Paul's being an apostle. (Acts, ch 9)

Your write is quite intriguing yet leaves the reader without answers to the questions asked. It poses a number of questions many faithful Christians do not themselves independently seek the answers to. Your write is equivalent to attending a prescribed denominational bible study to be told the answers these question pose.
