This was a moving piece. The picture was a wonderful choice to accompany your words, especially the first line and the last line. This was an extremely creative way to express the emotions. It was like a mini story with some rhyme. Very nice job and a pleasure to read.

Hi Janet, it amazing how time and a few decades can change a person's mind and outlook. When I was young "Fire and Rain" always made me smile. I, too, recently heard the song, and now it brought tears to my eyes.
With life comes all types of losses. I'm sorry that you and your son have been estranged for so many years. That must hurt. Of special note:

Where everybody knows each other's name --
and everyone is welcomed like a friend.

(The above reminds me of FS. We are a global writing community; so large, yet so small ... and everyone knows our name. It a place where the light is always on.

Well chosen photo. Silky rhyming. A heartfelt poem. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Thank you for this stellar review and your encouraging words and the special stars.

Life does bring losses and I appreciate your understanding.

We are a global writing community where the light is always on. What a wonderful way to phrase it.

I've always felt that people enter our lives when we need them, and leave when they've served the purpose they were meant to. That you have been away from your son so long breaks my heart.

When that song was released, I was told JT wrote it about his time in a mental hospital. I wonder if that's true.

Thank you for sharing a very intimate poem. Your muse served you well.

So sorry for the late response. We were traveling and then both my husband and I came down with Covid. We are on the mend but still exhausted.
I do appreciate your thoughtful review. The story JT told at the concert was that he knew this women named Susanne and they were involved in drugs. He moved on and went on tour in Europe. It was six months after she overdosed that his friends told him and he wrote this song. It can be interpreted so many ways. For me, it was a reminder of my son. Thank you for your kinds words.

That song by James Taylor is a wonderful song. It is sad to lose touch with people you had a relationship with of some sort. Sometimes reconnecting is not a good idea. I wish reconnecting with old friends is like your poem. This flows well and easy to follow. It is a poem that touches a person emotionally. Well done.

Boy do I know the meaning of those words. It takes me to my best friend I met on this site. We never met in person but talked daily for years. When she died suddenly, I felt abandoned. I miss her still many years later. Blessings, Barbara. Xo

Thank you for sharing this poem with us. Yes, I remember that song from when I was younger. I played it a few minutes ago on Youtube. It does offer a different meaning now since life has happened.

This is a truly lovely poem with excellent meter and rhyme. The thoughts you express are deep, yet easily understood. This is the kind of poem that makes the reader think of their own experiences and brings to mind a sense of friendship and forgotten days and hope.

-Nice artwork and presentation, Janet.
-Your notes are appreciated. I can relate to
friends (and neighbors) moving away, and
the loss of so many people during the pandemic.
-The other thing I notice is that people don't
want to communicate anymore. That's the
good thing about FS.
-It is ironic you chose this song because the
other night we started watching 3 hour show
with James Taylor performing on PBS.
-You did a good job with the poem with
effective description, rhyme, and repeating lines.
-A line that stands out for me is
"But in our lonely times we need a friend."
-A very good concluding verse, too.
-I hope writing the poem helped with your feelings.

No need to apologize, Janet. I am sorry you and your husband had Covid, but I am glad you are on the mend. You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and review. Friends are important, but so many seem to isolate themselves, as well.

My dad always taught me if you have one friend in life you will be a most fortunate man, but his definition of a friend, is one who would give their life for you. You may have pals, classmates, fraternity or sorority buddies, but a friend? I'm still looking.

Sorry for the late response. Thank you for your thoughtful review. I guess I am truly blessed. I only have a few "friends" but the are true friends who I can call at anytime. If I were in trouble, they would not only bail me out but help me bury the bodies. 🙂

That's a few more than me, and I'm okay. I made my bed, and am comfortable in it. Maybe a few of my "pals" can elevate their game.
