This poem took me back to childhood. Someone gave me a diary as a gift. I wrote what I felt about family members. Some stuff rhymed and some was prose. My Mom found the diary, read it, was angry, and threw it away,
When my daughter, an only child, wrote a paper about living with two adults and never being allowed to be a child, I didn't scold her. I encouraged her to write and asked her to talk about it. When she was older, she majored in journalism. Yay! You never know.

Even if the child wrote something vile, throwing it away or destroying it does not teach the child anything good. In future they become adept in hiding what they think away from you.

AMEN!!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this poem with us. I happen to think this could be true about any budding author. I know my boys and brother have asked if anything I've written has to deal with them LOL I told them, 'of course not', but I believe there's small piece of each of them in each of my characters. LOL I enjoyed reading.

I think they probably secretly hope that you will immortalize them in your writing. So they can point to a character they like and say, she was talking about me right here.

LOL Your parents are the parents of a poet. Do they have something to worry about? I guess maybe you have passed on you talent to the kids, but kids are good about making sure you know it, when they want to too. Watch out for things left lying around.

I thought I was a pretty good writer, until I read something my daughter wrote and I was immediately humbled.
