But if you have a child who's a poet, it might very well mean that you read to them, probably at night, before bed, sharing those special few minutes that, made them feel loved. Thanks for sharing, my friend. I wish I had a six.

I found out at age 28 that my paternal grandmother and one of her sisters wrote poetry. I met my grandmother for the first time at that age and her sister I never met. My grandmother discovered in our first conversation ever that our favorite poet was Paul Laurence Dunbar. My daughter is a better writer than me, but she is not interested in a writing career.

I love this verse about being a parent of a poet.

This is well conceived and realized.

The rhymes are smooth as silk, without force and create a tempo like one of a concerto.

The point of view is original and the topic is relatable.

Sadly, I don't think my parents paid much attention to this poetess.

Well done!

Your wonderful words are like music to my eyes and ears. What you felt was exactly what I intended. I so appreciate your reaction. Thank you so much.

I found this poem quite thought-provoking as well as amusing. I have a son who likes to write poetry, but he doesn't often share it with me, so quite possibly he is writing something that is not true, or maybe just a ballad about salad. I guess I will never know, but you've certainly written a cute and clever poem with unusual rhymes and I enjoyed reading it, and thinking about the possibilities. MM

I love your response. My daughter is a better writer than me, but she has very little interest in writing at this point in her life. I pray that if your son is writing things about you that are not true, that he is doing so in jest and is not serious.

Clever rhymes, Sir!
Is it better to have things written about you
that aren't even true;
not shown to you by the poet,
so you don't know it,
than to be ghosted and ignored
by one you adored?

In a case like that I suppose that you must choose your poison. Neither one will be that tasty, but before you act too hasty. consider the source, your child still loves you of course.

Well done. I like your poem. It makes me hope my child is a poet while simultaneously evoking a sense of dread that it may actually happen; so many things I would love to read and hate to read... if my child was a poet.

Your form is unique; like free verse poetry with rhyming couplets and two refrains. Regarding impact and engagement, the tension between risk (something derogatory or untrue) and reward (something whimsical or innocuous) impels the flow forward at a brisk pace and the realization that these things could actually happen and "you may never even know it" is quite engaging.

Great work. Great fun. Creative and clever. Well done. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thank you for an absolutely fantastic review. If your child should ever become a poet, may all that they write be complimentary even if they do not really mean it.

You are most welcome. It was my pleasure. And thanks for raising the possibility that my child, poet or not, may not really mean the nice things they say :-)

Nor may they mean the snarky remarks that are common to the younger generations.

This is a great poem, Nomi. I'm not a poet, so most of the styles you've mentioned mean nothing to me, but I like the rhythm and the message. As far as I know, none of my children are poets. I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, as for none of your children being poets at this time, it could very well happen at some point in the future. and the what will you do?

You are most welcome, Nomi. My children are all grown and have busy lives now. But they may, like me, find time to write when they get old. lol

Hello Nomi338,
'If your child is a poet, You may never know it.'
You have BEAUTIFULLY and TRANSPARENTLY depicted the theme.
The poem has impressive phraseology and captivating flow throughout from the very beginning up to the end.
The last two-three lines are particularly noteworthy.

Thank you. One of the motivating thoughts that went into this poem being written was the thought that many writers are children of writers. Writers who may not wish to share what they write with their parents.

LOL, you are so true. I am a poet, though I mostly write prose now. But in my heart, I will always be a poet. I guess you wonder why I laughed at the beginning. Well, my grandmother and mom would turn over in their graves if either had read what I wrote about them. Grandma was mentally abusive, and mom was never there, and when she was, she may as well not have been. Fantastic job!

As you obviously already know, writing provides a wonderful channel for getting rid of the angst you may be feeling. That would not be something you would share with the cause of your anxiety.

And yet you will probably hang it on the refrigerator. Lol. This was quite entertaining . The use of the different types of poetry and the rhyming lines were very humorous. I really enjoyed it.

This is a very well written poem that could be very true about many parents that are writers or poets. Our children may just fall in line to write also. Who knows what they will write about us or anything. You used very good descriptive words. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, Teri

Thank you. My daughter is a very good writer, but she does not want to be a writer. I feel it is a wastes of talent, but she does not agree.
