Hi John, I like you Halloween Christmas. It's a great story and held my interest. I'm glad you had Russell find Santa. You did a wonderful job, and good luck in the contest. Shirley

What a unique approach to both Halloween and Christmas John.

Ben watched as a pale yellow hand===> Add a comma after (pale)

So glad to see Russell found Christmas and that Santa was happy about it.

Fun, unique read.

Thank you, Gary, for the great review and comments. I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Your critique list is getting smaller. You've taught me to pay closer attention to my work, and I thank you for that. We'll see if I can keep it up, lol. :) Thanks again, Gary.

It's always nice to read feel good stories that put a lump in our throat and take us back in time to happier days spent with our children. I almost kept this one until tomorrow when our star baskets are replenished, but I figured you would probably post another touching story before the week is up. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

What a treat to read this first thing this morning! Delightful dialogue between Ben and Russell. At the end, I felt like I had slipped into The Polar Express with the note under the tree from Santa.

Great story and well written. The only thing I would change is the one Benny in all of the Bens, seems out of place.

Good luck with this contest:-)

Very nicely written. Good work.
Very credible dialogue.
Mom probably wasn't any too happy to have leaf debris all over her furry coat.
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes.

This is a nice Christmas/Halloween story for kids. With good illustrations, it would make a good children's book. To me, the illustrations are what make a children's book almost more than the story.

Thank you, Thomas! It's nice to hear from you. I agree on the illustration part. I enjoy looking at them myself, lol. Best, JohnC.

It's a lovely story, and no wonder your son loved it. It's a fine entry for the Christmas story contest, imaginative, and refreshingly different. Best wishes for your entry.

Hurrah! I SAVED a six this week! I just had a good vibe something was coming that would knock my socks off!

Super story! Even better that you wrote it for your son 23 years ago, when he was seven!

My eight year old grandson will be here tomorrow and you can bet I'm going to read this to him!

My inner child thinks your inner child is very cool!

Happy Merry HalloChristmaseen!

Seem me smile???

Karenina

Bravo, John!

Thank you, Karenina! I'm happy you enjoyed this one, my good friend. Thank you so much for the extra star, I'm elated! I would love to hear your grandson's reaction. Happy Merry HalloChristmaseen to you as well. :)

This just in: Maxwell loved it! Apparently your story is timeless!

(Of course he DID want to dress up as a Ninja Turtle (where did that come from!?)-- While simultaneously putting up the Christmas tree...)

    No worries!

I told him you'd confided to me, that has to wait until at least October!

    Grin.....

Hahahaha! It's not my fault, Maxwell-- (and I love that name) sounds like a super creative child who appears to take after his grandmother. I'm so happy he enjoyed it, Karenina, and thank you for getting back to me on Maxwell's reaction. It means much!

TODAY he called me and asked me if we could make Christmas/Halloween stockings! Look what sharing your story has started! (And, of course, in case there was any doubt, I'll be heading for the fabric store this afternoon to find suitable themed Halloween material to make stockings... Because I know I'll blink, and he'll be eighteen!

You are so right about the blink. You're an awesome Grandma! Happy fabric hunting, lol.

John, I have nothing but praise for the twenty-three-year-younger you and your finely tuned craftsmanship. I don't think there's a person who reads this who won't love it. I must say, I wondered how you'd bridge that gap between Halloween and Christmas, but you certainly did! Best of luck in the contest, but I know already that you'll charm the pants off the judges.

I wish I had a six. I love that you wrote this for your young son so many years ago. I love that the monster described the neighbors dog as a skinny legged hairy thing that squirted warm yellow liquid from its belly. This was written with love and I could tell. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
