This is a touching story written with a wryly amusing tone of voice that somehow makes it all the more melancholic. I love how you incorporated the memories into each object named, imparting true meaning to them. They are not just things, they are a life loved and lost in the flames.
Beautifully done.

Thank you for the six stars! I particularly appreciate your insightful review.

Great choices and you give solid reasons for taking each one. I like the booze to get you through this crisis. And OMG, that autographed card could sell at an auction for over a million, I bet. The football jacket is valuable as it reminds you of your first discovery of love. That made me think of how I would save the string of graduated pearls my deceased husband gave me to wear on our wedding day.
Well done.

Thank you for your wonderful review.

An excellent story, hopefully a good entrant to the contest. A difficult premise for one to make during panic moments. They all seemed monuments of personal treasures, except I don't know if I would have jeopardized my life over whisky no matter the price.

I think you chose wisely. I like how you told the story where you were scrambling to figure out what to save. I sincerely hope this never happens to you in real life. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Jessi, thank you for reading and for your review.

That is an interesting choice of what you would save. Memories are such wonderful things, but some things help us remember. Best of luck in the What Would You Take? contest.

I think some really good choices were made. What I liked most was you gave reasons and explanations for each choice. This piece is well written and interesting. Even though it is fiction, it is believable. Best wishes in the contest.

This is so sad. Hope it's fiction. I have had to leave my home for hurricane evacuations but we leave in our own cars. Packed to the brim with our possessions. Prayers up for all who have to chose and leave. Gretchen

I enjoyed reading this contest entry. It makes me wonder what I'd take if I could only take 5 things. Good luck with the contest.
On the way out the door, I grab the Bible my Mother gave me (lower case 'm' on 'mother' because of the 'my' & there are a few more that need the same correction.)

Barbara, thank you for reading, and for the edit. You should enter, it might be interesting what you would take.
Comment from Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
My husband would have chosen the whiskey first! Lol. I liked your choices, but still can't think of 5 items I would choose over all the things I held dear. But it is worth thinking about, because you never know if you might one day have to. Well done, and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Sandra, thank you for reading. Maybe you should enter the contest, force to think about five things. Give it a try.

Well, Mystery Author, I'd say your tastes of what you'd
save show the fun and sentimental side of you. I liked
everything you selected and the reasons for each. You
did a great job with the prompt. Your lines read smoothly
with great imagery.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan
