Beautiful poem. Yes, I can relate. The love of my life has been gone five years and although I miss his so much and think of him daily, I still consider life a gift. Nights are long but sunshine brings the joy of another day and sweet memories.

I love this poem. Grief is inevitable, we will be chilled in the lonely shroud of night...

The beauty of your verse is in the promise.

Everyone's time table is different, yet there comes a blessed dawn of renewal when we awaken thankful to have had he/she who we lost, more than bitter they are no longer with us.

Dickinson said "Hope is the things my with feathers..."

We fold grief into our memories and lift our faces to the sun...and the Son!

This is such a lovely poem. I loved your descriptions of evening such as "silver shadows dance throughout the night," and you're right that is the time when our sprits are affected the most. I also love your solution to the mourning by giving thanks.

After the darkness and loneliness of night, there is joy in the morning. I like the way you captured that joy with the blue skies, singing birds and playful squirrels. Hope is eternal and memories are a comfort.

Death is awful. It steals away those we love and hold dear. The God of love however, has promised that there will be a resurrection. The man Job whom God considered to be a good man lost his wealth, his health and all of his children, held on to his love for his God and said that if he should die, he would wait patiently for God to call to him from the grave and he would answer. He was that confident of God's ability and willingness to bring back to life even those who have been dead for hundreds of years.

This is a lovely poem that I would think your cousin's widow really appreciates. It's hard to greet each day knowing the one you love will never be there again when you awaken.

very powerful and moving poem about coping with the lost of a love one. I like how you show us that just the simple act of walking in nature can help restore one's soul after a painful lost. I hope to not have to face that anytime soon, but these words here are comforting to those in need of solace. I like that it is based on nature and not an overly religious theme poem.

I like your third stanza best, as it is a reminder that the sun will rise and life will go on.

I've never cared for the night, it has always seemed "long and lone" to me, no matter where I've been in my life. The sun rising on a new day and the early morning hours always leaves me feeling joyful and full of hope.

Nice image with this thoughtful poem.

Your poem was beautifully presented, Margaret. The picture
was awesome. Your words flowed smoothly with good pacing
and great descriptions. Yes, nights without one's loved one
are very difficult. But when morning comes, one realizes life
goes on and is thankful for being a part of it.
Thanks for sharing, Jan
