One of my all-time favorite poems, Maya was a genius...
Love that you've captured the dream of being free to soar!
I can't help but hope Ms. Angelou is soaring joyously on thermals of grace!

As you so eleganly state, it is difficult for us all to escape our cages. The worst is the cages that are in our minds not physical restraints. Beautiful poem, Kate xx

This is a beautifully written poem with a lot of truthfulness in it. I think we all fear leaving our safe space, but until we do we may never be free. Tha kd so much for sharing. :)

Gypsy,
We had a parakeet named Chippy. He was smart and would open his cage and fly to our finger or shoulder. We liked his company.
Maybe not that smart because he opened his cage one day and then flew out the open kitchen window - never to be seen again.
I hope he was happy to be free.

It's amazing how smart those caged birds are. They are free to come and go as they please. With the door wide open.
If you think about people in jail, would they be better off with unlocked doors? It seems those locks make people feel confined and combative.
Would certain people go in and out of those jail cells on their own if they felt someone in society had faith in human beings?
Of course, sometimes people need to go to jail in certain circumstances. However, they are behind many locked doors in the entire building.
For those in for murder, attempts to murder and rape should be locked in cells.
Yet, there are many people in jail for much less crimes, and most are humiliated just for being in jail.
It is just a thought.
Have a great weekend.

I love the sound of birds chirping, especially at sunrise. Around here they start even when it is still hazy outside. Your poem sounds like a sad case for the finch, but the author's notes make it sound like they prefer their cage. Either way, the song is what counts, and its beautiful whether caged or not.
Nicely worded but kind of sorrowful.

A beautiful picture of the caged finch, Gypsy. I did not know that the finches did not leave the security of their cage, amazing. I really enjoyed your words of the haiku because they did show security. Very well done. Blessed be n Hugs!

It's not just with finches, many inside birds prefer to stay in their cages for fear of the unknown. I used this fact as a metaphor of some people who stay because they are afraid.
Thank you very much, Aryr. I appreciate that you took the time to read and review my poem. Blessed be and hugs.

Many people are caged within their own invisible walls. I find that sad. I enjoyed reading this poem. I can see metaphors written within. Thank you for sharing this beautifully written Haiku with us.

Hi Gypsy Queen,
I think we all may have a tad caged-bird syndrome at times... hmmmmm, some more than others.
My sister is a full caged bird and hasn't been past her front yard for over four years. Jade has been a caged-bird for most of the thirty-nine years I have been with her... not going far from the safety of her comfort zone... and well, I too now have the very same caged-bird syndrome through such a long term association. I'm wondering if I can still fly? One of my wings is now damaged beyond repair, but the mind is willing. I guess I travel to far off gulfs and lands, living vicariously through an imagination that wants to fly.
Beautiful presentation as always Reina

Amor, respeto, besitos y abrazos.
With our thoughts we create...
an open door policy.
Kind regards,
James.

Hello, James,
I am afraid of leaving my comfortable zone but I do it anyway and hope for the best. That is why my name is Gypsy and why I came to the USA by myself when I was 15 years old, but I did have an aunt I had never met and cousins too. Going to school here after going to catholic schools was a culture shock... but somehow I survived. Since I moved to California I moved 22 times around the state. Every time I moved, I lost something to what I am today. I moved a in with my daughter to care for my grandson full time. To move here I had to get rid of almost everything I had, I only kept bedroom furniture, photographs, and my son's paintings he painted. He is an awesome painter. Letting go of 'things' is a painful but liberating thing to do.
My sister is a caged bird. When I was 15 and she was 25, my father's wife kicked us out of their home. We both had the chance to move to the USA with our aunt but she refused. In 50 years she has not changed a bit.
Congratulations on your 39 years marriage, that is awesome, it must take a lot of commitment and love. I wouldn't know about it. My longest relationship was 14 years. I kept choosing men like my father. Quite a cliche
I live vicariously through imagination. If I had the money I would travel around the world and I would buy a house by the beach big enough for all my children to come and visit me. It would be awesome if I found the right life partner too.
Thank you for the excellent review and personal slice of life. I appreciate it.

My Wish for you... to come into a truckload of money to travel and purchase that house by the beach for all your children to come and visit. I think you are mi valiente lobo!
I can't even imagine having being kicked out of your house at fifteen and not only moving, but to another country and culture... always be kind to yourself, it all starts there.

Thank you, James (*÷*) I appreciate your kindness and encouragement. Have a wonderful night.
