Yew. I can't unlearn wasps and wasp eggs in figs... Guess those fig squares at the bakery will now be replaced by lemon squares!
So sorry about your yard! I"d have been out of my head!
I KNOW it is illogical to eschew figs now.
Oh, but I will!

I'm like you. I can't unlearn this. I'm sorry my son told me about and now I've gone and ruined eating figs for a lot of other people. As I said a little learing can be dangerous.

Yup! I once heard a certain tiny percentage of "bug-parts" are allowed in peanut butter... Yuck!

This story, A Little Learning is Dangerous, brings us to that uneasy position of being proven wrong. Fortunately, full disclosure to smirking youth is not a necessity. Hee hee.

Thank you Bill. I wouldn't have believed it if it had been written in so many placed. I've eaten figs all my life and no one told be about it before.

Your story was interesting and entertaining. I had next to no knowledge about figs, but I wouldn't have guessed about the whole wasp thing. Thanks for sharing and introducing me to a world of knowledge I never wanted (LOL), and best wishes to you.

Thanks for all the information, I didn't know about fig wasps either. I knew though there was a reason I don't like them. Now I am vindicated and can use the information I found in your story to silence all those fig-lovers who try every which way to get me to eat them. :) You did a good of job of putting things into clear, concise language, I don't think you need the disclaimer in paragraph 15. Do you still miss the fig trees in your yard? They can be beautiful plants.

Wow. I learned a lot from this. I had no idea about the wasps and fig connection. And I'm really blown away by the male and female fig trees. You need to cut your boy some slack. If he hadn't said anything about the wasps you might still be in the dark. Lol. Good story.

This fun story/essay is full of facts that I, too, knew nothing about! Very interesting information you've given us here, and in a lighthearted voice.
I'm pretty sure we eat and drink things that would normally horrify us - better we don't know.
Very entertaining and very well written - couldn't find a thing I'd change.

I share your distress about your garden, and I can't imagine what the yardman was thinking to take down camellias, Japanese maple, lilacs, Japanese magnolia! He should have double checked. But your writing became very informative regarding both figs and wasps, and I enjoyed learning all of it - hope I can remember at least some of it. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Wendy. I'll especially miss my Camelia because it had made a large tree that was covered in large showy flower in January and February when nothing else bloomed. The wasp information help me not grieve over the figs. LOL.

ROFL! You have me laughing so hard I about choked on my tongue. As kind and sweet as you always come across, this is the first time I've witnessed a real flash of that nice person who is full of P and V. Thanks for sharing.

Thank Ric. I'm glad you laughing. Yes I have a dose of P and V that I try to keep under wraps but my kids would assure you that they are aware of it.

Hello Beth,
Elizabeth Emerald let me know about this article. I'm so sorry about your yard. I don't know what the fellow who did the work was thinking. I'm afraid I would be upset for quite a long time if it happened to me.
Yet again I've learned something new on this site. I had no idea about the wasps, or figs in general. I may have eaten a fig in my lifetime, but I don't think they are something I would care for in particular. I've had more than a few Fig Newtons, but again, not my favorite. Nonetheless, your article was most amusing and enlightening. Thanks for sharing.
Have a blessed evening.

Thank you Tom. I appreciate the review and I like your comments. I was very upset and cried a few tears over the yard but I can't let it get me down. I so glad you got both interesting information and found my story amusing. That is what I was hoping for. I'm also glad I've not ruined you taste for figs since you never had one.

Thank for the review. The relationship between figs and diarrhea wasn't exactly what I was going for. LOL I guess reading teaches us what we need to know.
