Author,
Your descriptive story is a great chronicle of this landmark.
From the photo, the reader can very well mistake the castle as one of the many castles in Europe.
Nice job of weaving memories and events.
Good luck with this one
Blessings,
Cindy

You've given the reader a comprehensive description of Look-out Tower, making it easy to visualize. Your account of high school activities makes you Sense of Place short story even more enjoyable. Best wishes in the contest.

This essay, Castle Craig, gives the readers a great description. The story of the general history, along with the more personal accounts from youth, make this a compelling destination.

Gunner,
I enjoyed your story very much, and elements of it were nostalgic for me. My first college roommate was from Meriden. Her father was a big whig with a silver company there. We fell out of touch after I transferred schools. Proofing notes follow.

There are also many walking trails that start at the park and continues to a halfway house and on up to the castle. ==> continue; need paragraph break following this sentence.
The woods surrounding the parking area is a great -- I think "forest is," "woods are"
Durning my high school ==> During
radios tuned to the WDRC Hartford rock and roll station after a high school -- better as "WDRC, Hartford's rock and roll station, after . . . "

Thank you very much! Do you remember roommate's name??
-
This was 1968-69. Janet Ball. She has a friend Leslie with a boyfriend whose name I can't remember (It was an odd nickname), but they were hippie-ish.
-
Mr. Ball was well known in town. There were two older brothers (I believe) Played tennis and had fast cars,
-
I don't remember older brothers, but she was way out of my league financially. I remember they had a huge glass case of sterling hollowware in their house.

A very well-written description that makes this landmark an interesting read. Well done in detail that makes it an attractive "visit," even if one cannot go to Meriden.
(sp. during instead of durning)
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes,
Mary

You did a great job describing a place for a short story, although its broad descriptions would slow down the story. However, your exercise made it quite interesting, and the parking lot would be a good lead for a story. Well written.

Castle Craig is a "sense of place" story submitted as fiction, but it sounds completely true and biographical of the author's teen years. If it were fiction, there would have been the hook-end prosthetic arm left hanging on the door handle of the car when a pair of spooked lovers race out of the castle parking lot one night after hearing an emergency broadcast about an escaped, one-armed prisoner! DUH, DUH, DUH!!!

INteresting. Is it a recommended spot for out of state visitors, or only of interest to locals? What is Meridian known for?............................................................................................

Meriden was known as the Silver Capital of the World. It was the home of International Silver Company (Insilco)

Your words were very descriptive, Mystery Author, and the
picture was great. It does resemble towers from the Middle
Ages. Your facts were great. I could tell you've been to the
castle many times. It'd be amazing to be at the top and see
the faraway places as you described.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan
