The secret about writing a story like this is you've captured the essence of the remarkable closing checkmate, but it takes the attention of the reader to be drawn into the opening gambits and middle but essential part of the story, and you've combined them all, well done, blessings Roy

Okay, I get it. We have another master storyteller on this site. This is a beautiful love story about a man who purchased the most meaningful gift in the world for his wife. She would have been overjoyed with her perfect gift that represented the essence of her. Fortunately, others could enjoyed the man's tribute to her. Beautiful.

Omg. This one almost got me crying. I love the thought he put into the gift. But I really loved that he didn't share the reasoning for the name. He kept that to himself and that was so telling. The garden was about her. It was for her. Such an amazing story.

What a beautiful story, portraying a man's love for his sweetheart. I am sure that hillside was a beautiful site. I love how you kept us in suspense all the way through and then revealed that the gardener was the one who had planted the garden. So sad that his wife never got to see it.

What a beautiful story, Terry! I like the way you started it, with a man wondering what he could give his wife. I know it's fiction, but I can't help but wonder if there is some truth in it too. Well done.

This is beautiful, Terry! It made tears well up in my eyes.
Pulled at ny heart strings! His heart was in the right place and he chose a wonderful; gift even if she didn't get to see it... But who says she didn't. Well done. Nancy:)

This is so well done, Terry! A tear-jerker for sure. What beautiful sentiment and the idea of a small plot of land memorializing a loved one's life. After all, isn't it about celebrating a life lived? Best, JohnC

If we only knew half the stories that accompany various works of art and love. I am convinced, we would be amazed. You my dear friend, have written a heart warming story that is so good, it does not matter if it is pure fiction or verifiable fact. it is still a very wonderful story of undying love. Thank you.

Your story was well written, Terry. I enjoyed reading it. Your
description of the daffodils was awesome. I liked the interaction
of the couple and the maintenance worker--not really one. He's
taking care of the garden on his own. He planted the bulbs for
his wife. He named it 'my butterfly's garden' because she flew
to Heaven, but the butterflies are messengers from there to him.
He tends it out of love.
Thanks for sharing, Jan
